Houston CHL Attorney?

I'm looking for an attorney in Houston who has some experience with self-defense situations.

No need for him/her specifically, but I do want to have someone to call should I ever have the need. I've read that you should know exactly who to call if you ever needed to use deadly force.

Any suggestions?

I put a legal firm on retainer 'just in case'. It's clear (to me) that if one is located in a city and is forced to use deadly force in defense of family or property legal costs will be incurred. While I have not used these folks, I like their web presence and have not found any negative comment. Google [Pre-paid legal service].

I am also looking into the program that cewait mentioned. I believe there are lots of other threads here that discuss that program, so perhaps a good idea for you to do a search and read some of the other posts.

Since I live in the Houston area, I would like to visit their office and have a face-to-face meeting to get my questions answered... even if that costs me some additional money. Would be interesting to know how many cases they have handled, what has been the outcome of those cases, which attorneys they employ to represent customers, etc.

[Pre-paid legal service] customer here as well. I hope like crazy I never need them, but it's very cheap insurance. I met them in my CHL course...called a couple times to talk to someone with general questions and they were quick to assist. I know they have experience in this area, which is obviously something you'd need should you ever find yourself lawyering up.

I haven't heard of any cases that were represented by them? Are there any examples for cases where they assited? Should be some from open court records.

Due to the small number of arrests of CHL holders they probably haven't had to represent anyone. You could also ask them.

I think before I contract with a lawyer I would want to know what they real experience with the type of case being tried. I don't want a real estate and trust lawyer trying to defending me in a criminal trial when they have no real experience at that type of case, and especially if they have no past history of winning.

That's why I was asking in way of what cases they actually had experience with. I do like the concept very much, but haven't seen anything on real examples where it was actually used or in play and who are these attorneys who participate in the program? Big difference between getting a Rusty Hardin vs. well something else. Again I do like the concept but I'm not totally convience on the "quality" of the program, but what should I expect for $89 per year.

I ended up going with them...pretty cheap insurance. I think the only real benefit is someone you can call quickly right after an incident. I would expect them to only represent you up to a grand jury hearing. If I was on trial I would find counsel specific to the case, and with a proven track-record.
