Ikea Round Rock - 30.06 Sign

#1

Post by RandomMan »

All,

I have read this forum frequently, but posted very rarely. My wife and I went to Ikea Round Rock (one of our favorite stores) this morning and I noticed a 30.06 sign posted (properly) on both entrances. We immediately turned around and left, without entering the store. I have drafted a letter, which I am sending to the store director, I will provide the response I receive. I encourage others to do the same, I have long enjoyed Ikea, their quality, products, and encouragement of creative uses for their products in their design. It is a shame to see that the store in Round Rock no longer welcomes CHL holders and their money.

I understand your "disappointment", but I gave up on Ikea many years ago. Even in California, where there is no 30.06 sign and no "shall issue" CHL, I did not like their policies and refused to do business with them.

Outrage is one term, my preferred is disappointment.

I appreciate many of Ikea's qualities and policies and have never had a negative word to say about them, until this morning. Can you be more specific about the policies that left you no longer wishing to frequent their establishments?

As an additional note. Those who may wish to join me in writing to Ikea Round Rock about their 30.06 signs may write the store director here:

Round Rock, TX. 78665

It wasn't so much the "policies", but the poor quality of their merchandise. Ikea claims to be environmental friendly, but when their merchandise falls apart in a couple of years and you have to replace it, I don't call that being "green". IMO, a good environmental policy doesn't include selling disposable furniture.

My sister bought some shelving units from Ikea. I helped her assemble them and was disappointed in the construction materials. The "wood" shelving unit was made out of cheap particle board, but I thought "you get what you pay for". When the fasteners were tightened they pulled out of the shelf I was appalled at their inferior merchandise.

A couple of years later, when she moved into a new house she disassembled them and moved them. When she tried to put them back together they pretty much disinigrated into sawdust. She had to throw them away and buy new furniture. Needless to say, she didn't go to Ikea.

I have never noticed a 30:06 sign at the Houston IKEA. Have not been there since March so I hope this is not a recent change.

Ikea is a Swedish company. Thus, socialist, liberal, anti-gun policies are hardly surprising.

I'm happy to say that I did not see a 30.06 at the Ikea in Frisco when I went there this weekend. I hope they keep it that way.

Well, I'm glad that some are so willing to paint Ikea, the Swedish company that runs a yuppie slum, with such a broad brush of generalization. I hope no one does that with gun owners the world over. :banghead:

FL450, Teamless, and urnoodle, thanks for confirming my suspicions that this was localized to the Austin-area Ikea. This tells me that it is probably the decision of the store director here and that a little pressure from the higher lever corporate management will probably see the signs removed, at least that is my hope.

austex58 wrote:Ikea stores are actually franchises, so each store can have different policies. At some point this year the one in Round Rock went from the classic picture of a gun with a circle and slash through it to a real, compliant 30.06 sign.
That is surprising. Thanks for that bit of information. :tiphat:

So, I'm guessing it depends on the owner and/or the experiences or complaints received by patrons that don't care much [abbreviated profanity deleted] guns.

In any case, it sucks you can't carry there. But, it IS up to the owner to set the policy. The IKEA here in Houston doesn't have that problem (yet).
