Post by scooter03 »

I know this must be on this site, but slow computer and late night dont help so please dont beat me with a stick.

I had to change my address on chl and I went thru the process online, however it did not tell me anything as to what to expect. How long will I recieve another in the mail and I sure hope its still ok to carry until the new plastic arrives. I wish the site was more helpful. thanks in advance.

Change of address usually takes 30 days or less. Yes, you are OK to carry until you receive the new one. Not a bad idea to carry the printed receipt from the website, though, until you get it.

Don't forget to change the address on you driver's license too.

I think 2 weeks was the expected time line. However, since they seem to have recently doubled their speed down there, it could be a lot quicker.
You should be ok until you receive your new one.

Take away the second first, and the first is gone in a second.

Mom has had to do a replacement because her purse was stolen. No the gun was not in it.
She also had to do a chg of address when she moved out of appt & bought her moble home. Both took the 21 day time frame to receive new plastic. That was before on line stuff though.

I agree that you should carry the on line receipt. ESPECIALLY if your DL & CHL have different addresses.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Here is the offical response from DPS on the DL/CHL renewal question:

The online address change for the DL is in no way related to the CHL program. We do not have any checks in place to see if a person has a CHL when they try to do an online address change. I've checked with CHL and they indicate that there is no provision that the DL has to be changed in person. They do however need to be aware that changing the DL online will not change the CHL address. This must be done separately.
