In 1972, the Postal Service enacted regulations that prevented open and concealed-carry weapons and explosives on postal property.

Why would you think the folks in Washington would change their rules. They're trying to make it harder to carry not easier.

You are probably right. However, what they are actually accomplishing is the reduction of revenue for the USPS. I, as I am sure many other CHL holders, avoid going to the postal office and end up using FedEx and UPS. In the past 3 months I used UPS 11 times, most of which I would have preferred to use USPS had I not been carrying. That's almost $100 they lost from me.

I like my USPS office staff. They are competent and great at Customer Service, but the Government management with its many ridiculous rules (including their holidays up to wazoo, unrealistic pension plans and other Federal employment "ridiculousities") has run it into the ground. I don't know... Maybe it's for the best.

I am familiar with this case. I actually brought it up earlier in this thread. Even though it doesn't automatically change the law, it can be used as a legal precedent. I just wouldn't want to be the test case for its use...

Okay good. The main part is that it's a misdemeanor not a felony. $50 fine or 30 days in jail = class C

And I would not carry in the post office either, but I'm not going to sweat the parking lot; due to the federal law that allows you transport your firearm in your vehicle.

If you dig through all the federal laws then Im sure you could find out you are committing a felony everyday. I personally do not worry about it, just keep it in my car locked up and go about my business. Im not driving back home just to disarm just to go to the post office, not worth the time or gas.

For me, it is much easier to avoid the USPS bricks and mortar all together and do all of my transactions at my local dry cleaner who has a post office counter. I get much better and more cheerful service, can drop items off for cleaning at the same time and the dry cleaner is often on my way to do other errands. I have a nice big smile on my face each time I walk through the door with my EDC on my hip.

I decided if the Federal government wants to play silly games, I can, too.

We live in a small town. I dont worry about the parking lot. My wife checks the P.O.box for our mail while I stay in the car.
If I'm alone I park along the street & leave my gun concealed in my car.

I also use a small town post office that sounds very similarly situated. I just park across the street off the road way --in the grass.

im not much of a tin foil hat person.

I leave my gun in my car all the time when i goto the post office.I just park,go in and do my business and leave.Sometimes i goto the post office in the not so great areas of west houston and i refuse to even go without my weapon. Although i dont carry it inside.I say leave you gun in the car and do your business and leave. If you go somewhere looking for trouble you will find it. Other wise i dont worry about it.I think people really way overthink stuff on here.

I bet when im in the gulfton area of town their is way more people carrying illegally anyway.

And you are illegal in doing so, so I would not recommend promoting illegal activity, which is also agaisnt the forum rules. :nono:

Fortunately, the post office that I go to almost all of the time is in a shopping center that is privatlly owned and leases to the PO. Therefore I am legal in leaving it in my car/truck as the parking lot is common to the center.

Yeah, others have said they are leaving their gun in their car, but you are the ONLY one promoting that other people do the same thing. THAT is the violation of forum rules. So I respectfully suggest that you take your own advice and "get over it". :tiphat:

Oh, and read the forum rules. You can find them here. :rules:
