A friend who recently attended the instructor certification course (I go on 7 NOV) said the DPS instructors told him the DPS is/will hire private security companies to monitor CHL classes, rather than use DPS Troopers as has been the practice in the past.
Has anyone else heard this?
If the report is correct it raises a lot of questions... questions that will doubtless need to be addressed with next legislature.

Class Monitoring
Hoist on High the Bonnie Blue Flag That Bears the Single Star!
My understanding was that the DPS was taking over the field investigations for the private security board, and would have an increase in field positions for that. The plan was to use those DPS investigators to monitor classes instead of the troopers that have been doing what little monitoring has been done previously.
At least that was what I understood from my class in September...........

Re: Class Monitoring
Your friend misundersood. The Pricate Security Bureau, a division of DPS which regulates the Security and Investigations industry, was budgeted for more department employed investigators. DPS will use THOSE investigators to monitor classes.cxm wrote:A friend who recently attended the instructor certification course (I go on 7 NOV) said the DPS instructors told him the DPS is/will hire private security companies to monitor CHL classes, rather than use DPS Troopers as has been the practice in the past.

No private companies will be used, they are state employees.
