I went to the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio last week (and going to the Shell Houston Open on Friday) and they wanded everyone before you got on the shuttle bus. I'd expect the same to be true at the Shell Houston Open.

I don't disagree, but I am fairly confident that I wouldn't want to be the test case. Much like gun shows, who wants to be the first one hauled downtown by a Sheriff waving a metal detector? I would be very surprised (and pleasantly so, I want to be clear) if the security LEOs are going to knowingly let someone armed into the golf event. I would be happy if I'm wrong.jbarn wrote: A defense to prosecution is not in play here. A defense to prosecution is labeled by the phrase "it is a defense to prosecution".
If the professional sporting event is not being held at a premise, as defined in penal code 46.035, then it is not off limit to concealed carry under a CHL.
When entering most football stadiums you enter a least a portion of a building, which is a premise under PC 46.035.

i just don't see why they would worry about someone being armed at a golf event. I mean they have tons of golf clubs laying around and a lot of "athletes" who could overtake and whomp the crud out of a shooter

Re: Shell Houston Opent
They wanded everyone going in. No 30.06 signs that I saw. I guess they were counting on the "professional sporting event" classification. Most of the places selling alcohol inside the gate had 51% signs posted.
One interesting thing happened. I took some cigars for me and my buddies but forgot my cutter. When I got there I took my knife out of my pickup and stuck it in my pocket. It has a folding blade about 2 inches long and has a pocket clip.
When I got wanded I took it out of my pocket and laid it on the table with all my other stuff. The "very attentive" security guy who wanded me didn't say anything about the knife. I rode the shuttle up to the gate.
On my way into the gate, the LEO sitting there tells me the knife can't go in. It was in my pocket with the clip showing. Not sure how he saw it as my cell phone was in the same pocket with it's clip outside my pocket as well. Must have been paying really close attention.
The Marshall who was there was kind enough to take me to will call and ask them to put my name on it and hold it for me. It was there when I finished up for the day.
If I had just dropped it in my pocket no one would have known.
Ended up biting the end off my cigar instead of cutting.
