Sorry, my bad then. Out here in the sticks, LDS folks never work after dark and most places won't let anyone solicit. I suppose they don't wear name tags anymore either?

This type situation is where I quickly hold up my non-gun hand, palm out, in the universal stop gesture and firmly shout "STOP"!
If they're on the "up and up" they'll most likely stop and you can better judge the situation...
Even if they're bad guys, this action may confuse them enough to actually stop giving you more time to assess.
If they don't stop, you've done what you could to dissuade them and can take the next step of placing your hand where you can draw if necessary.

I've had the same thing happen to me at a gas station in south Houston. I try to avoid stopping in that area, but sometimes I have to. I'm on high alert, and then from behind the gas pumps, out pops ... church guy. Just goes to show you that not everyone in our society is evil.

I can't imagine a pair of Mormon proselytizers seeming like they posed any kind of physical threat.

With all due respect, there's also a fine line between living and dying. Why even bother being vigilant? Are you not worried someone will see you and shout, "paranoid"? I just don't understand all the cries of "paranoid" from folks who own and carry guns around. There's a fine line between vigilance and paranoia.

The white shirts, black ties and black slacks along with the bicycles could have been another giveaway to their identity. OTOH, that get-up could have been a clever disguise to dupe the unsuspecting grocery shopper?PeteCamp wrote:Sorry, my bad then. Chill. It's O.K. The Lord and Joseph Smith are watching over you. That's why you didn't shoot them and they didn't rob you. Quit carrying that heathen Browning and carry an AR pistol with Christian gun sights:
. That way, the good Lord will make sure that your aim is true and the wicked shall feel the fury of the almighty!
You can also put cute phrases on your ammo, too:
. Please help me choose a Christian phrase to put on my guns and ammo. I invite you to post cool passages and phrases (a passage from the bible or you may make up a catchy phrase). Thanks!

All I have ever seen still have tags, including the ladies. I usually look for the tags, as they all say "elder" so in so on the young men, and I often start my discussion to them with that.PeteCamp wrote:Sorry, my bad then. They may sometimes be, but apparently not required, as the last 2 groups of their women doorknocking were probably 19-22 and had nametags of "sis so-in-so"dubya wrote:Perhaps I rely to much on how I feel the people "look". Clean cut would likely get up to me. Scraggly looking not.
As to LDS, my experience is they seem to like to go up and talk to people in public a lot now. Perhaps they feel it is less threatening.
Several times in my neighborhood park I have had them come up. Last couple times it has been 2 young women each time (they have to be older to go as women).
