I did this morning. I have tried three times to register, via the internet, in Dallas County, but my voter registration card never seems to make it to me. So, I figured if you don't have to have an ID to vote in Texas I would show up with an ID at the correct polling place in my precinct and see what happens.
I show them my ID and they can't find my name, so they go look in the computer with the same results. I explain my situation and the lady says, sorry. I ask about the fact that an ID is not required to vote in Texas and I have one with an address in their precinct and a police officer standing next to me in line to vote says, "He's got a point." The lady shrugs her shoulders and says she doesn't know what she can do. They ask if I have another ID or something with my name and address on it that they might use. I tell the officer that I do, but I've never used it for ID before. He gives me a confused look, so I show it to him. He chuckles a little and says to the lady, "You really should let him vote." She wanted to see this ID, my CHL, and I showed it to her. I completed voting less than 5 minutes later and arrived at work only 15 minutes later than usual.
BTW, she also handed me a paper voter registration application.
Anyone use their CHL for ID to vote?

I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

This should be cross-posted in the "Leo Contacts and Bloopers" thread as a positive note for our Texas LEOs!
