I agree w/ throwing the keys. It will be the same shock factor of "cant believe you would do that." I have decided to make sure that throw is not at them but far away. Nature will demand a glance & flinch. Hope that will be the time needed. If he gets my car keys & I go down, then he also has my wife's house key if he decides to use it instead of run.

Can we throw the keys and legally shoot them as they're trying to grab the keys?

the perp had a gun.
you have no way to know if the gun is real or memorex!... all you see is a gun.

That in itself constitutes aggravated robbery.

PC §9.32.
DEADLY FORCE IN DEFENSE OF PERSON.

(a) A person is justified in using deadly force against another:
(3) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly
force is immediately necessary:
(B) to prevent the other's imminent commission of aggravated
kidnapping, murder, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault,
robbery, or aggravated robbery.

and because this was at your home, in your garage...

(b) The requirement imposed by Subsection (a)(2) (duty to retreat) does not apply
to an actor who uses force against a person who is at the time of the
use of force committing an offense of unlawful entry in the habitation of
the actor.

You might want to make sure your EX-wife's housekey is on there :)
