Re: Carry in a Texas State Park?
Just a minor technical correction but the officers did not make the arrest for violation of federal law. In every case I know of, the person was arrested for violation of state drug laws. After the arrest, the local DA and the federal DA talked and decided which office would try the person. This is also true with other federal crimes, such as bank robbery. The local police made the arrest for aggravated robbery under the state laws and then the feds assumed jurisdiction of the case.CrosstimbersOkie wrote:Yes. Local and state officers can arrest for federal violations. If that were not so, there would be very few people in federal prisons for drug convictions.
State and local officers can make arrests for federal crimes only under very specific conditions, such as the federal law that requires special training and a local agreement before officers can enforce immigration law.

True in many cases. In other cases local officers hold dual commissions. The Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse for instance are federal LEOs. They are also cross commissioned in 47 local agencies: http://www.nativenewsnetwork.com/chicka ... ition.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The Oklahoma portion of Lake Texoma is in the old Chickasaw nation incidentally.
