After repeatedly seeing the same "processing application" on DPS's web site, I realized that the concept of CHL is kind of silly in Texas.
Texas is a shall issue state, so if you have no issues w/ the requirements, then they'll issue you a license. Since the requirements are published, I'd assume everybody (or at least the ones who can read :) who applies would get his/her license. So, why is there even an application process ?
Is it to charge people for illegal carry? In these cases, shouldn't there be an investigation into illegal carry anyway assuming these folks must have gotten into more serious issues to show their pistols (i.e. rob a bank, etc.) ?
Anyway, just something that I thought of. Probably you have thought of it already.

After thinking about it, CHL just doesn't make much sense

That would be a bad assumption. DPS turns down many, and revokes and suspends a bunch too.j1132s wrote: Since the requirements are published, I'd assume everybody (or at least the ones who can read :) who applies would get his/her license. So, why is there even an application process ?

Assuming that everyone who can read is honest is, well, assuming a lot.

To get a set of number for those that have been revoked and suspended try this DPS link.

They do indeed revoke and supspend quite a few.
