Does anyone know of a place where the current 2007-2008 booklet is available in Microsoft Word format.

Thanks - TEX

I think the easiest thing to do is :
1. Open up the PDF file of the CHL Laws
2. Copy and Paste the text into a new MS WORD document
3. Save this file as your new CHL file.

Now you have it in MS WORD format.

Here is a link to the various Texas Government Codes in MSWord. It would take a while, but you could recreate the DPS booklet with some cutting and pasting.

I may be doing something wrong but I think the current PDF file is an image file. The previous PDF file let you copy and paste the text but the current one does not.

However, the various Texas statutes in the DPS CHL Laws PDF are available as Word files so I have recently assembled a Word file from them. My plan is to make an 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" booklet like the DPS has available. Before I post it though I need to check through it one more time.

ttorion- You are right, the reason you can't cut and paste from the file from the DPS site is that it is a scanned PDF. Basically the words are pages and words are pictures.

I have a PDF of the current booklet that is not a scanned image. I got it from the DPS web site when it was first released. I copy text out of it all the time. I will e-mail it to anyone who wants it.

My e-mail address is seamusTX (at) comcast.net. I don't see an e-mail button in this forum.

You are right, I just went to the website. I see it is scanned now, but I downloaded it in September and have the true PDF version on my PC. So can't really help you except to email it.

Here is the word document I put together.

If seamusTX or Lucky45 will email their PDF copy of the booklet to n5na@arrl.net I'll post it on my web server for anyone to download.

Thanks Jim. Got it.

In the mean time I was able to FTP to the DPS server and found a version there that is not an image. I remember the version you sent me because the DPS included the full text twice in the file making it a total of 149 pages. I found a version that is 77 pages.

If anyone wants a copy of the 2007 - 2008 LS-16 that can be copied and pasted you can download it here.

Regards,

Alan

This is another great site for the entire penal code, broken into easy to read tabs and sections. I reference it all the time, because it is so easy to find what you are looking for. Sorry if this is a toast repost.

Just to save people from posting more links to other codes, this page has all of the current Texas laws on it. I am pleasantly surprised by the fact that they are the updated versions this early. Last session, it took until March, IIRC.

For some interesting things, you really need to read the laws. The important ones are the Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Family Code for their most direct affect on your daily life. The Government Code and Local Government Code tell you about our government and how it is supposed to be run. The Civil Practice and Remedies Code tells you how you can be sued and information of that nature.

Of course, I find the Alcoholic Beverage Code pretty important right now too, but it is of fairly restricted impact to the average person. There are others that you as an individual might also find interesting.

And one important word of warning to anyone reading the law: DO NOT TAKE IT AS GOSPEL. You will find that what you think it means and what the courts think it means might not agree. Until you learn how to research and read case law, you will not have the full understanding of the law. Well, maybe you should take it like Gospel, since your interpretation and the church's may have the same types of differences as yours and the courts understanding of the law.

The link did not work for me. Not sure if trouble with the link or just server trouble on that end.
