CCW weapon recommendation?

#1

Post by lawrnk »

I’m looking at replacing my kel-tec and using it as a BUG. I’m looking at the glock 27.
I want to spend 500 bucks, hopefully less. I also prefer .40S&W or .45acp for CCW.

Carters has these on sale this week.

Berretta 9000s in .40 cal

Berretta px4 storm .45acp

Kahr Arms Carry .40

Anyone recommend one? Or anything else? Small size is my biggest need. I am slim body framed, over 6 feet, and print easily.

If you like the Glocks, you'll love the XD's :cheers2:

Thanks for that. I think top gun allows rental of those. I'll go check it out. Is it comparable in size to the baby glocks?

I find "flatness" of the firearm to be the biggest aid in concealment, rather than length of barrel or butt. I carry a FN (Browning) Hi Power in 9mm in a C-TAC IWB tuckable (which is a very flat holster also), and it causes very little printing. The Hi Power does come in .40 S&W -- I have one and like it as well. Just a tiny bit heavier and wider in the slide, (you can feel this if you are a HP fanatic, but its not much difference), 10 rounds instead of 13 in the magazine, but otherwise identical, and very nice gun. Plus you can drop in an EFK Firedragon barrel in .357 Sig, use the same magazines, and have punch similar to the .357 Magnum 125 gr JHP, with more rounds and less flash. Quieter, too.

Have no experience with the others you list, altho I do have a Kahr P-9, and it is very flat also, easily conceals.

A Glock would be very good, and I hear many good things about the XDs, but have no experience with the XD.
Best wishes.

I shoot and carry the 3" XD (40 SC) and enjoy it. The short sight radius gives me some problems at the range but not so much that I can't still shoot COM with enough accuracy to be confident. It carries nicely and the larger mag option makes it a nice home defense pistol as well. I actually prefer to shoot my 1911PD (Commander size) because it just seems easier to put on target. I'm looking at an XD45c now just because I like the 4" barrel with the shorter grip. Gives me the same ease of concealment with a 4" sight radius. Wish they made the 40 in a compact.

That's not necessarily the case.

I like Glocks and often carry a G19 but I'm not fond of the Springfield XDs. Try a number of different handguns and choose a sidearm (or sidearms) that works for you. One size does not fit all.

+100 on the S&W M&P. :thewave

I have two 9mm's, one full sized and one compact. The full sized is a bit large for CCW, but the compact is perfect, IMHO.

Available in 9 mm and .40 cal. A .45 compact is in the works, I think.

You should be able to find one at the upcoming gun shows in the Pasadena/Houston area for a LOT less than Carter's Country. Bring a check or cash to avoid a 3% credit card markup fee.

My G23 carries well and shoots well. Can't ask for much more than that.

Yeah, I have a g22 full size, but it is WAY too big for me to conceal.

You might want to test fire an M&P sub-compact....it's a 3" barrell. All M&P's come with a set of 3 different grips.
You can custom fit this pistol to your hand. It's one of the most comfortable pistols that I have ever fired.
It conceals great also....and until the end of the month, Smith and Wesson has a $50.00 rebate with 2 free mags.
