CHLer arrested in improperly posted hospital

#1

Post by XDgal »

WFAA, channel 8 in Dallas, showed a story on their 6pm newscast about a licensed nurse who was arrested for carrying her pistol to work. She walks a few blocks to Harris Methodist in Bedford in the dark and wanted to protect herself. She's had her CHL for two years. The hospital has a sign, shown onscreen, that says "state law prohibits carry of a handgun". Not 30.06. They didn't say how she was discovered, but she was arrested. The Bedford police chief said that Hospitals are off limits period and she broke the law. Channel 8 also talked to a CHL instructor who explained that it has to be 30.06 to make it a crime, they even showed the proper language. She plans to fight the charges. I looked for a link, but didn't find one. I'll look to see if they post it later.

Channel 8 quoted a hospital spokesman who stated that it was a violation of the Health and Safety Rules that apply to hospitals for employees to carry handguns on hospital property. Is Bedford PD filing on that or 30.06? If its 30.06, I'd say that Bedford PD is in the wrong. Could this turn into a test case over what is proper signage?

More to follow I'm sure.

If I were to bet, It would be that this thing gets quietly dropped. I hope if it goes to court she eventually sues the cop the department and DA. They should know better. sounds to me like there is a DA that needs to be Chuckied.

I did not contribute anything to Mr. Horn's defense because frankly there was a groundswell of support for him in Pasadena. After all, Pasadena is well.....Pasadena.

If this lady is being wrongfull prosecuted I certainly hope there is a lot of support for her and I will contribute.

If in fact the story is correct and there is nothing more to it (like policy banning employees from carrying) I imagine the DA will not even accept charges.

I hope she then seeks State and Federal Criminal civil rights violations against the department.

Yep. You guys know how pro police I am, but to deprive a person of their liberty for something that is NOT illegal is reprehensible.

Unfortunately, I searched WFAA (the lefty libtard station) website and there was NO mention of this I could find. I am biting at the bit to fire off a letter to the Bedford Chief along with media watchdogs like Becky Oliver, etc. But I am giong to wait until ALL of the facts are in.

I am in Bedford all of the time.

Quick question, anybody live close to Harris Methodist Bedford? Can you make a quick trip to the hospital and take pictures of the entrances with date time stamp on the photos before someone at the hospital gets the bright idea to put up proper signage. Take someone with you as a witness when you go.

I'm glad it said she intends to fight.

I think both the TSRA and the NRA should get involved at this point, with whatever legal resources can be brought to bear.

Should the PD attempt to drop this, they should be made to publicly apologize to this woman as a beginning.

Has anyone heard how their DA feels about this, because the District Attorney's office should also feel the heat.

Of course, the end result may be more hospitals properly posted, but these buffoons in Bedford have to be taught a lesson.

If the DA doesn't drop it, I sincerely hope the good people on this forum will help support her case. It's scary when the Bedford Police Department doesn't know the law. There is enough crime in their jurisdiction that someone in that department should. I hope she sues.

According to Bedford PD website, Lt. Kirk Roberts is Commander of their CID.

I work in a hospital in Jefferson County...there's the handgun-with-the-red-slash sign on the door, but I've not seen the wording that the instructor (in the newscast) said is required...what I have seen, just yesterday, is a police officer with handgun on his belt, in the hospital cafeteria. If the Bedford PD spokesman is right, that shouldn't be happening...if he's wrong, she didn't commit a crime. She might have violated hospital policy, but that's not quite the same thing! I do hope she wins, and Bedford law enforcement and her employer get their acts together!

Channel 8 quoted a hospital spokesman who stated that it was a violation of the Health and Safety Rules that apply to hospitals for employees to carry handguns on hospital property.
Just what are these "Health and Safety Rules"? Are they part of a TX statute of any kind? And is there a penalty written into the law for violating them?

If so, the nurse could be in trouble.

But if not, it doesn't look like the hospital, PD, DA, etc. have a leg to stand on, though the hospital could fire her if it wanted to (I guess).
