Interesting new site is operating now at http://www.gundebate.com/.

Eric Thompson, the owner of the Internet-based sporting goods and firearms retailer that has sold products to the shooters involved with the Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University tragedies, says his unfortunate twist of fate is spurring him to take a more active role in protecting the public – especially young people – from future attacks.

Gundebate.com is a newly formed site dedicated to an unbiased and open discussion of the gun debate in the United States. We invite both sides of the issue to come to this site to get involved in coming up with a real solution that works for America.

Why do I figure that trying to post there would be an exercise in abject futility?

Those who would debate for the other side don't "debate". They post and abandon if losing. They troll and sockpuppet. They NEVER concede a point when logic, real life and human experience declares their point of view pointless and wrongheaded.

It appears that, as of right now, that site is heavily populated by our side. Not much debate going on.

That's what I thought would happen. Those who come on for the other side will either be middle of the road, or overwhelemed and then leave.

That is, essentially, the case in any place where those with facts have an equal voice to those who have no facts. That is why the media seldom, if ever, voice anything in a pro-gun way. That is why they censor stories of civilian gun use saving lives and stopping crime. By hiding the truth you can make a point. But only when you never allow the facts to speak.

The gun-banners can not debate. They come to the party with nothing. They will not stay where they can not silence, lie, ban and shout obscenities.
