The 27-year-old North Richland Hills man was shot in the shoulder and taken to a local hospital, police said. His condition was unavailable.
No other injuries were reported.
The incident happened about 12:30 a.m. in the 7900 block of Laura St.
The 30-year-old homeowner told police that he was asleep when he heard someone trying to get into his home through a back door. While his wife called 911, the homeowner armed with a handgun went out to investigate, police said.
The homeowner fired once when he saw the man in a side backyard, police said.
When police arrived, the 27-year-old man was on the ground in the backyard, North Richland Hills police Sgt. Greg Trickey said this morning.
Police plan to present the case to the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office for consideration of any possible charges against the homeowner.
This is about 5 miles from my home. Last week, a "fake" NRH cop pulled a man over and robbed him in the same general area. The week before that, there was a road-rage type shooting in the NE mall parking lot.
This used to be a nice quiet area.

Mine used to be the same when we moved here. It was the birth of a crack house about 200 yds from our house on our street & the board discussion of home carry that convinced me to keep it on after arriving at the house.
Like many I arm up when I get dressed & disarm when I go to bed.
Who still has the picture of the shower rig???

I have a feeling the homeowner will face charges, if the guy really was standing in the side yard, and not actively trying to get 'in' the home.

Story read backyard is where he was found. If there was a fence then he had to know he was somewhere that the home owner did not want him to be.

Yeah, but he is also not presenting an imminent danger either. And unless the homeowner shot thru an exterior wall or window, he had to LEAVE the relative safety of his home to confront & shoot the trespasser.

The story says that the homeonwner heard someone trying to get in and went to investigate while his wife called 911.
Wife called 911 = perceived threat
It's not illegal to go outside on your own property, regardless of the reason.
Husband called 1911 = threat neutralized

Fox4News this morning was reporting that the intruder was moving towards the homeowner when the shot was fired.

Hopefully it goes to the Grand Jury just so he can be no-billed.

Well I hope he is no-billed, or not even charged, but I am guessing it will go to a GJ at the least. He left a place of relative safety, after police were notified, and confronted an individual who was not presenting a threat to him prior to the homeowner exiting the house.

You're missing my point--the trespasser was no longer an immediate threat to the home or residents as the writeups indicate he had left the back door and was in the side yard. The shooting has certain similarities to the Joe Horn issue (IIRC the name right) where the man observed a burglary next door, called the cops (who did not arrive until after), then exited the relative safety of his home & shot the burglar.
