So I was wondering has anyone been disarmed? I was with a friend one time. He didnt have a CHL, but the pistol was unloaded and locked away. the LEO asked to see the pistol, made sure it was clear and at the end of the stop he laid it on the bumper and said for us not to get back in the truck or touch the pistol until he had left.

It was unloaded and locked away, but he asked to see it? Did he just randomly ask if there were any weapons in the vehicle?

we were actually out hunting and we always took a handgun for protection against two legged critters, he asked if we had any weapons, probably b/c we were dressed in camo

Years ago driving through Van Zandt County (I didn't say speed trap this time...oops), more specifcally I-20 close to Gladewater when we were pulled over for speeding. Maybe 12 or 15 miles over the posted limit. I wasn't driving, but we were coming to Dallas from Shreveport and driver told him he had a pistol. The trooper asked for the gun and took it and the driver to his car. When he was done he almost forgot to give it back but brought it to the car unchambered mag loaded. We had an unexpected detour to the courthouse in Gladewater so the driver could pay his ticket and ask for DA.


Once when I was pulled over in Bossier City (Illegal turn) told the officer that I had a loaded and chambered .40 Sig 229 he told me to take it from the duffle bag on passenger seat and unload it and place the gun, bullet, and magazine on my dash. before I even started he turned his back to me and walked to his car while I did what I was told to. I didn't think that was a smart move on the officers part, but i was leaving the offie in a suit and tie and had a military haircut in a military town, and they always seemed to treat me differently when I was well dressed as opposed to my days off in a t-shirt and jeans.

I've never been disarmed, but usually when I'm pulled over my gun is in the console of my truck. I'm usually asked to step out of the vehicle and the officer continues to talk to me at the back bumper of my truck. Once an officer said "That's fine, just don't reach into your console for anything".

I'm not sure what they would do if I had it on me

I was stopped Wednesday by a DPS officer and he disarmed me after I presented my CHL. He ask me to step out of the vehivle and then removed the pistol from my back pocket. He then emptied it and handed me the magazine and proceeded to his car with my pistol in hand. Upon returning he said that he would lay my pistol in the seat. We finished and I reloaded the pistol and put it back in my pocket.

Every time I've been pulled over (even under 18) -- they have asked if I had any weapons in the vehicle or on my person. Never had one so it was always a no. Never been disarmed either ;) I'd feel kinda strange if it was locked away and they wanted to see it. Who knows why some cops do these things *shrug*

As I have told here before, I have been licensed since the first year. During that time I have been stopped four times. I always keep my hands in plain site and give them both licenses when stopped. They either ask or I tell them where my handgun is before I reach to the glove box to get my insurance.

I have never had an officer ask for my gun, or ask me to get out of the truck/car and never received a ticket on any of those stops. After I received my license and insurance back one officer asked what I carried. That time it was a Colt Detective Special and he then proceeded to give me a 15 minute history lesson on the gun and who in history had carried one and at what years changed were made in it over the years.

I have never been disarmed by a LEO during a traffic stop. I also have never received a warning instead of a ticket.

I've never been disarmed by an LEO. That includes 3 stops in 7 years here in TX where I had a CHL and was obligated to make a declaration, and 1 stop back in RI where I did not have a CHL, was not obligated to disclose, but was transporting 2 unloaded handguns in full compliance with (the very restrictive) RI law. The RI cop asked me if I had any weapons in the car and I told him the truth, that I did. He asked to see them and I opened the trunk and showed them to him. I had them in a locked case along with a full bullseye shooter's style kit and the cop could easily see that I was no BG so he didn't hassle me at all.

I've also been stopped a few times in RI when I did have a CHL. In RI, there is no obligation to disclose. As it happens, I was never asked if I had any weapons in the car during these stops and I did not volunteer any information. RI cops do not get the same kind of training as TX cops do when it comes to dealing with non-LEO who are carrying loaded handguns on the authority of CHL's. To a RI cop, this is a very strange and suspicious thing for a non-LEO to be doing. I have known many people who were severely hassled over that (carrying) when they were doing nothing whatever illegal except for a traffic violation. So it's common practice among RI CHLers to disclose their carry status to cops only on a strict "if they don't ask, you don't tell" basis.

Things are way, way better here in TX. Trust me when I tell you this.

I have never been disarned i tell them it's on my left hip iwb and i guess they figure if i draw lefty i'm at a disadvantage shooting out the drivers side lol.Actually i think it's all in how you respond to the officer whether he sees you as a potential threat

I was disarmed by Nacadoches PD a few years back. My wife had a heavy foot that day and caused me to be detained

For those that know me....I hope you agree that my demeanor is not threatening. I smiled and talked with the guys and was actually amused that my wife (with a spotless driving record) was being pulled over.

The officer was a FTO to a young fellow and actually used us as instruction. My handgun was removed from the vehicle, unloaded, and retained until the stop was over. I was handed the gun and given permission to reload when they had driven away.

The guys were friendly and seemed as if they were following policy. I am not in agreement with it, but that is what happened. Hopefully policy has changed with new laws on the books.

Kimberly even got to take defensive driving to celebrate the event.

Maybe I missed something, but I'm confused. If your wife was stopped, why were YOU disarmed? Why did you have to disclose you were carrying?

I've had to present my ID three times since receiving my CHL. One time i was not armed. As for the other two...one was for a traffic stop (75 in a 60). I presented my DL and CHL as the APD officer approached my passenger window. Before he could even finish his opening sentence...you know the one..."Do you know why..." he saw the CHL, stoped mid sentence, and then asked what I was carrying and where it was. I told him, he said that if everything checked out that I would be on my way. And that is exactly what happened...a minute or two later he returned...told me to slow down and to have a good day. No ticket..no warning...nothing...he did not even look or ask for my insurance. The entire stop took, at most, 4 or 5 minutes. The second time I presented while carrying was a result of some jerk backing over my motorcycle in a parking lot. I was armed, and when the APD officer asked for ID (to fill out paperwork), I tried to hand him my CHL with my DL...he saw the CHL on top ...and without even taking it he said..I do not need that. I put the CHL away and handed him my DL.
