I'm impatient!: How long should it take to get my PIN?

How long should it take for me to get my PIN?
I sent my app via certified mail, and they received it last week.
How long is it supposed to take for them to get everything together, and for me to get my PIN?

nitro,

It took 30 days to receive my confirmation letter/pin # after DPS received my paperwork. From my understanding, the wait for PINs seems to range between 2-4 weeks. :???:

I'm thinking they are in serious need of help in Austin. Or a change in upper management.

Is this your original CHL and did you apply on line? My wife applied on line for her renewal and the pre-printed application form already had the PIN on it. I don't know if this is the case with an original application, but if you applied on line and received a pre-printed application, I would think it would be the same.

I agree...The renewals are getting all of that stuff already on their renewal notification in the mail...PIN number, etc etc...

Chas.
I didn't apply online, the CHL class I took asked us not to; they asked us to just use their packets.

Today would be one week from when I sent it. I'm just all impatient because my old out-of-state CWP expires in a little over a month/

It's approaching 3 weeks. How long before I should call to check on my PIN?
BTW it's my first time, and I did not apply online; I used a packet that was given to me when I took the class.

Processing Delays

#12

Post by comsec »

I already had my PIN when the application packet was sent in October because I had applied online and paid the fee.

I noticed that the online status remained "Application mailed to applicant" for almost 3 three weeks before the online status changed to "Processing application".

I sent an email to the office about a week after I had the delivery receipt and received a reply that it would not begin being processed for at least three weeks after it was received. The DPS did not confirm to me that it was "on hand" but since I had the USPS delivery confirmation I inferred that they had it.

Once the processing started it took about 3 calendar weeks before my status changed to "License Issued or Certificate Active" online.

I decided that I would let the system work and only sent the one email query to them.

So it looks like if you have not applied online, you will get a PIN from the DPS about 21-25 days after you have a delivery confirmation of your application.

It also appears that sometimes the process doesn't go as smoothly for some.

Looks to me the rule of thumb is:

1. After 3 weeks of application receipt a PIN should be received

2. If you alrady have a PIN from applying online it takes about 3 weeks for the status to change to show that your application is in human hands being processed and not sitting in a stack

3. Sometimes there is a hiccup internally and there is a delay because of internal paperwork handling and sometimes not getting back the BI data, particularly if it comes from out of state

For those of you that are waiting, be patient but when there appears to be an inordinate delay a proactive email/call seems to get some focus on your application's processing.

I know the statute requires "shall issue" determination before the expiry of the sixtieth day of processing unless there is a problem. I also know that the the "waiting" is excruciating.

Be courteous to them and also be zealous to hold them to the high level of accountability that is also required of CHL holders.

Glad to hear you guys received your pin #'s.

Don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but today marks the 63rd calendar day since my application was received by DPS on 12-12-05 and I'm still at "processing application." I sent over an email and was told to give it more time as it takes "around 60 days to process an application." Uhh, well it's past 60 days. It's VERY frustrating knowing there's absolutely nothing you can do other than "be patient and wait." In my book, that is unacceptable. If we as citizens have to follow the law, so should the DPS be held accountable to follow what statutes our Texas legislature have passed. 60 days! sorry about the ranting and raving. :willynilly:
