Four years to renewal? Did I miss something?

#1

Post by dejadoo »

I received my CHL Jan. 12, 2006 and my birthday is tomorrow, but my CHL expires Jan. 25, 2010. Am I missing something? Shouldn't my expiration be Jan. 25, 2011?

In case it is relevant, DPS received my application Oct. 25, 2005.

Yes
You did miss something

As of 9/1/2005 renewals are for 5 years.
See you at the range
NRA Life, TSRA Life, USPSA Life, Mensa (not worth $50 per year so it's expired)

The first license is still four years and to your next birth date, renewals changed to five years as of Sept. 1, 2005.
If they had waited untill just after your birthday to issue you would have gotten almost five on the original.

As was explained to me, because of the fact they base renewal on your birthdate, if they did a 5 year renewal on the initial license it would technically be possible to have someone get a license for MORE THAN 5 years, and that would run into problems with other laws. After the initial license the renewals will be 5 years.

Thanx,
