Taste of Texas Posted

I was listening to the Pat and Edd show this morning on am700 here in Houston.

Edd Hendee is one of the hosts and owner of Taste of Texas restaurant. He talks on the radio fairly frequently about having his CHL and about gun control not being the solution.

A caller this morning was discussing gun control and going over all of the criteria for someone to obtain a CHL here in Texas and towards the end of the call he asked Edd if his business was posted and he said YES. The caller said that he would never visit his restaurant and that got Edd a little hot and he went on to say that it was private property and his right to post if he wanted. Edd went on to explain that because it is a prominent restaurant that has high profile customers, that he felt it was best for people to not carry in his restaurant. He then mentioned discussions with his insurance company but didn't give any specifics as to whether they essentially forced him to post.

I was shocked that his initial response was that the reasoning was because it was a prominent restaurant with high profile customers. Wouldn't that actually make it more likely to have a shooting?

I have been there several times (not carrying) and have never notice that it was posted.

I'm incredibly frustrated to learn that "one of the good guys" posts at his place of business.

STRANGE......

But this may bring to light the underlying problem......"Insurance"?

Is the insurance industry somehow trying to restrict the rights of CHL holders in this State (and other's)?

We need other Forum Members that own their own business to chime in here and let us know what (if anything) their insurance providers tell them regarding lawful carry of handguns in their place of business and how it may (or may not) affect their rates.

I hope the caller was quick enough to say it's his money and his right to spend where he wants.

Seeing as fewer than 1% of the business in Texas are posted, and nearly all have insurance, it is certainly not common for insurance companies to require posting (if any do).

I work for a major carrier and "no where" is there any written requirements to force the posting of "any sign." Check out the Texas Department of Insurance, no where does it state that an insurance company has this right. The short of it is, business owners of all types generally use this statement as an escape goat for their reason to post what ever sign they want on the door or wall. I'm sure everyone has seen a sign at the local auto shop stating that "due to insurance regulations, customers are not permitted in the shop" - a bunch of bull. It doesn't mean that the insurance carrier can't recommend such as in the cases of a high hazard area but in the end it's the business owner's decision so they decide!

Just as I suspected.

This is a conspiracy.

More reasonable restrictions from hypocrites.

Well, If businesses weren't allowed to post...... But that's being discussed out in another thread.

Fortunately, my wife is a vegetarian.

Simple solution.

Don't go there!

Thanks for the info from the posters above, it appears that it does not have anything to do with insurance. That's GOOD!

Now, I have never been to "Taste of Texas" and thanks to this post I never will go there!

I poked around on their website looking to give them some feedback.
No "contact us" email, just a phone number.

Anyone got an email for the owner?

I have no problem with businesses posting 30.06 - I just don't patronize those businesses. I completly understand if the business owner is anti-gun. But for a CHL to post their own business just sounds incredibly hypocritical. You would think a CHL would know the statistics and realize that the restaurant would be safer with concealed carry allowed.

It's a great restaurant, too. Shame.
