Why exactly are gun shows posted 30.06?
Both gun shows that I attend regularly in D/FW (High Caliber in Ft Worth and Market Hall in Dallas) are posted 30.06. Can anyone give a me a good reason why?
A few Glocks, a few Kahrs, Dan Wesson CBOB 10mm, Dan Wesson CBOB 45ACP, Springer Champion Operator

So, since the signs apply only to CHL's, are we to infer that we are all idiots?Russell wrote:Short answer, to keep the idiots from pulling a loaded, concealed handgun out to "show it off" and either:
A. Not adhering to the golden rules and shooting themselves or someone else
and / or
B. Get themselves arrested for intentional failure to conceal.
Since most shows are held in government owned facilities, the signs actually have no standing anyway and should be unenforceable.
My own opinion is that the promoter would not be able to insure the show if he didn't make every effort to eliminate loaded firearms. No insurance, no show.

We must acknowledge that, yes, there are a few idiots who get CHLs. These idiots would no doubt ruin it for the rest of us who possess common sense. Murphy has shown us this time and again. I'd prefer that they not be posted, but I can definitely see a "I'll trade you for what I have here...oops" moment happening without it. Also, as many police roam those shows, failure to conceal arrests would rise, and that would be bad publicity for the show for both sides of the gun issue. It's also very good peace of mind to know that all guns in the show are unloaded, should a newbie be shopping next to you. Of course you still check every weapon visually, but I don't trust that the guy 3 tables over did that.

More from an insurance thing than anything else I would guess. The main issue that we've seen is the random gunfire that scares the c**p out of everyone. And in particular the event organizers. The Frisco Show lastest for ONE SHOW! Someone let a round off in the brand new venue and we've never seen the inside of the place since.
Small inconvience for the attendees, but anytime I've ever heard of something going on outside the show, it's handle before anything gets a chance to get going.

I guess you are referring to folks who disarm for the improperly posted sign.
I should say that if you plan on getting a new holster or magazine or something that you will need to fit to your gun, it should be brought in unloaded and secured. I'll keep mine concealed within the law. I would not draw a loaded firearm in that situation unless I intended to use it.

Oh, I'm not naive, hence I check everything I pick up. I just think it's a little extra reminder to keep it hidden, or else you're asking for trouble. After all, if there's a sign and police see you unconcealing, you're going to be arrested, and then you may convince a judge to let you go for improper posting, but you're already out the time and money that way.flb_78 wrote:I guess you are referring to folks who disarm for the improperly posted sign.

To be fair, I don't trust anyone I don't know. Trust is earned. The show doesn't know you, so they don't have to trust you.boomerang wrote:Because they don't trust us.

The idiots are allowed to carry. Meanwhile I'll obey the sign and spend my money somewhere else.SCone wrote:No, no, it's not you... it's that guy next to you we don't trust.boomerang wrote:Because they don't trust us.

Over the years, I've been at several shows where ND's occurred. In all of those instances, it was a dealer responsible.

I agree completely. I had one instance where I needed to check a holster for my legally carried, concealed handgun. I walked back to my truck, unloaded it, and reentered after having it tied.flb_78 wrote:agbullet2k1 wrote:It's also very good peace of mind to know that all guns in the show are unloaded,
