Do Concealment vests really scream gun?
My business is on the south side of San Antonio and I are looking for a concealment garment that would be bearable in the 100 degree heat. I have been carrying a P3AT for the last couple of years in my front pocket, but I would like to be able to carry a larger handgun. I am a medical professional that normally wears a dress shirt,tie, and Docker style pants. Does anyone have any experience with a Concealed Carry Clothiers Tropical vest and what colar do you recommend? My business partner is in the same boat. Does the average person have the powers of observation to guess wht is under the vest?

I think a white lab coat would look more professional than a vest. If you're talking about after work, I think most people are oblivious. The possible problem is that bad guys pay more attention than the average person. I think tactical vests and waist packs do get noticed by bad guys. That can be bad or good.

I don't know if they scream "gun," but they do scream "doesn't know how to dress." My own opinion.

The only people that think GUN when the see a vest are already carrying guns of their own. The public at large is blind.

Love and a .45 is a great movie, one of my all time favs.

Currently I think about untucked shirt in the summer and a vest of some type in the winter - I think vest in the winter is very ok and most folks would not think a thing about it.

I have seen a lot of casual/photograpy type vests, does anyone know of a concealment vest that is "nice" looking - wear with dockers and a long sleve shirt?

I'm not sure if you will find a vest to wear in 100 degree heat but for something less photo journalist looking....


Ken is a moderator on another gun forum called The High Road (goes by BullfrogKen on the board)and hand makes these beauts....they are pricey but natural material and supposedly breath well. They would 'go' with most casual business attire ....

I am going to remain clear of the "fashion vs. CCW" debate.

Bear in mind however, that by looking like a "plain ol' dork" you may be drawing extra attention to yourself. I guarantee all people I ever interact with would know something was up if I was wearing a fanny pack or a vest. I would attract a lot of attention with people constantly asking me "so what's up with the ..." referring to whatever weird clothes or accessories I was wearing. I might as well wear a clown wig or a storm trooper costume.

Now if you normally look like a "plain ol' dork" I presume you won't have this problem

I will be back shortly w/ some pics of my vests. Wear them all the time & for Sunday dress. Not a suit coat but I like'em.

I wuz thinkin' about one of the 511 vest when we made our last sojourn to the Hill Country.

I changed my mind when I felt how heavy they were and noticed that it would be like wearing a tent. A lighterweight vest might just be the ticket. Leather is always nice and it annoys the PETA folks too.

I agree with the labcoat idea especially if anyone makes a short one. I am not part of the medical fashion scene.

I do not agree with anything screaming "GUN", even guns. They do not scream. They might elicit abnormal responses to certain individuals who are insecure in their manhood, are afraid of tools, or who are not aware of what true freedom means.

KB you scoundrell, you know I cover w/ a vest all the time. I have been called Redneck, Clod Kicker, Dumb Country Boy, Hick, Flatland Farm Boy, & a few things that aint printable under the 10yr old Granddaughter rule,

One of my Sunday vests. I put on one of my Sunday shirts so you ad a tie & dress pants.


Casual vest here is really a heavy cotton western snap shirt. Take the sleeves out, square it up at the bottom, & hem it. I have the dennim & a kakki one.


A close up of the same one. Starched & ironed these will look sharp over a dress shirt with or w/o a tie. The lab coat will make a good one too. Sleeves out & cut it off at the length you want it. Dont like snaps. Pick a heavy weave print shirt w/ a long tail. take the sleeves out & square it up at the bottom. Folks will think you bought it that way & ask "where did you get that."
I promice they will said the Redneck Country Boy.

I sometimes wear a 511 vest and they are very hot in the summer.
Vest like Longtooth has are alot cooler and cover a IWB very well

I like your vest, longtooth, they look very nice.

I also, agree that most people will pay no attention to you and will not notice anything. Most everyone walks around oblivious to their surroundings and are in their own little world.

Thank you bryan. My Mom alters the ones we make out of shirts & she makes from scratch the others. She has made me 4 from scratch. She sews as good as she shoots. She is really pretty good at both.
