Further proof that my wife is purty smart!
My wife got a mass email from one of her student buddies at UHCL today...
I helped her slightly with proof-reading her response to all of them...

Hi y’all,
I got this from a friend…YOU HAVE TO READ IT!!

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to warn you to be careful around Baybrook
Mall and really around town in general. Tonight
Eddie, Kate and I went to Toy's R Us on Bay Area Blvd.
right at twilight at 7 pm and Eddie was unloading Mady
from his side of the van and Kate and I were walking
around and a car pulled up and a hispanic male tried
to grab my purse!! He was sitting in the passenger
side of the car and pulled up so close and grabbed
onto my purse and at first I thought my purse had
hooked onto their side mirror. Then I noticed that
his hand was holding onto my purse and the car was
moving so it threw me to the ground onto my side and
my arm, leg and thumb got scraped up and it drug me
about 2 feet. Thank God he let go of my purse because
it was hooked onto my arm and they would have drug me
on the asphalt more!!! Eddie and another man took off
running to follow the car but they couldn't get the
license plate number.
The police came and said the same car was just at the
Baybrook Sears right before this happened to me and a
lady was robbed of her purse in the same manner. They
didn't get away with my purse but the skin on my thumb
is torn away. I was taken by ambulance to Clear Lake
Hospital to have the baby checked out and thank God
everything is OK. I am so lucky.
Also, last week the Citibank next to Beauty Brands was
robbed by gunpoint and a few weeks ago the Radio Shack
next to the Blackeyed Pea was robbed at 2 pm in the
daylight. The Shell station on the corner of Hwy 3
and Bay Area Blvd was also robbed at gunpoint. Just
wanted to let everyone know to be careful and be alert
because alot has happened crimewise in our area
recently.
Lisa
Thanks,
Bonnie

All the more reason to be ever vigilant, and hyper-aware of your surroundings…
At certain times you are certainly “more at risk to be assaulted, robbed or worse…
And there is no place safer than the rest…So you must do your best to not be an inviting target for this type of crime…
Keep your head on a swivel! Be aware of who’s around you and create a bubble around you and your family, that if that bubble is penetrated, you be ever that much more observant…There are certainly times when you can relax that vigilance, but in public there are few places to do that these days…
There may be a lot of crime that may not be justification for the use of deadly force to protect yourself, and you should not be expected to wait for an attack to happen in the same instance…
The state of Texas has good laws in regard to the right to defend yourself against crime…Become a student of that law, and apply it to your daily routine, at home and outside the home…
I have learned to become comfortable with ways to defend myself, my husband and I have obtained, and maintained a Texas Concealed Handgun License…Does this mean we walk out of our home looking for trouble, or an excuse to shoot someone at the slightest provocation??? Certainly and absolutely not…
It has become a natural part of our lives, and has further developed a sense of security, and maturity between us…No longer do we wonder what we’d do in a situation where we may have to defend ourselves with the use of deadly force…Instead it has honed our ability to lessen the temptation to be an inviting target for such criminal activity, with the means to deter the continuation of a criminal act, or deal with it decisively…
If its not the means for you, then certainly you should explore other means to defend yourself, and become a student of those laws which define the parameters in which you can and cannot act in that regard…
I had never shot, much less handled a firearm before I met my husband…His previous knowledge and mindset behind these means intrigued me enough to learn about it myself, and now we have something which is serious business, but something in common, which gives us an excuse to do something together that draws us closer together as a couple, and as a team…
He encourages people to find out for themselves if this is something for them, to seek out the knowledge of the law, and how it can apply to them personally…
It is a serious thing to consider, and should be treated as such…It is a right, it is an empowerment, that you will soon find out that is under attack itself everyday from people who would like to deny you the right to defend yourself effectively, thus hearing more about crimes like this to people we know and care about…
It is a responsibility, and yet it is also learned that you should also accept accountability for your actions as well…
In this situation, would deadly force been justified to use??? As it was described, I would say no…But the burn to interpret the criminal minds intent is not practical, nor wise…That is why if you choose to exercise your right to keep and bear arms as enumerated in the founding documents of this country, it is equally wise to become a student of the law, and become proficient in the use of the tools of that right…
I know some will disagree, but I feel it is important to encourage women to learn more about this right, and make a decision based upon facts, not emotions and an agenda that makes it easier for you to become a victim or statistic…
My husband and I would welcome further discussion about this option with anyone interested, it only takes that first step…I made it, and never looked back…And I am happy I made it…I am much more comfortable in public because of that decision…

My wife was wondering why one of her "friends" from work was suddenly stand-offish. Seems that she was worried about the "girls" going out together one night, they might get attacked or something.
Since word of such things tends to get around, one of her other friends from work, who happens to be a close enough friend away from work too, informed the worried party that it was ok as long as my wife was along, because she carries a gun.
The worry wart is even more worried now and is just barely on speaking terms with my wife. We have asked the other friend not to do anymore public relations for us and she has assented, especially since we explained that concealed carry is supposed to mean that nobody knows you have it until a bad guy makes it necessary.
Real gun control, carrying 24/7/365

That was a very eloquent response from your wife. She seems like one of the sharper knives in the drawer! I hope you don't mind if I copy that and ask my wife to read it. I have been trying to encourage her to get her CHL for a while now, and now that we have a baby I feel it is even more important. Unfortunately, she seems to fairly indifferent regarding it though.

Sure...But don't say knife...I have to sleep at night...AG-EE wrote:That was a very eloquent response from your wife. She seems like one of the sharper knives in the drawer! I'll put your wife and mine together to chat about it...
She understand the politics and reasons behind this right, and knows how important it is to me and her to protect it...
I'll be the first one to tell her that its not about the baby now...Its about you guys having better than average odds of being around to raise that child your own way...

See...AG-EE wrote:To give you some perspective on your wife's view of things...
I asked my wife if she would take an NRA Refuse to be a Victim class, and she said "sure, as long as it doesn't take all day." :(
When I asked why potential life saving information wasn't worth a day of time, she scowled.
You have to trick her...
My wife pulled a fast one on me one time...She was all excited about a "show" over at the Pasadena Convention Center...I was stunned I didn't know she was that excited about a show before...
So when we got there, well, it wasn't the show I was thinking about...
So I spent about 3 hours at a "Crafts Show", and when I got out of there...
Instead of smelling like Hoppes #9, I came out smelling like a fruity candle...
So when you think you got it bad...Just remember this story...K?

Unfortunately That would be my wife's response. She is one of those that truly believe that it can't happen to them.AG-EE wrote:To give you some perspective on your wife's view of things...

Stevie, Kudos to "The Wife Unit". What a great response. I'd be intrested to see the e-mail recepient's response to that e-mail.
