If you have a Texas resident CHL, then we have reciprocity with those states. You must still follow the laws of those states. Here is your best reference site http://www.handgunlaw.us/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; where you can see a link to the laws on each state regarding concealed carry.

EDIT TO ADD: Make sure you read the laws and prohibited places. Each state has their own variation, and what may be legal in Texas may not be legal in another state (for example, church carry.)

It is very important to remember that your MUST obey the laws of the state in which you find yourself. States have VERY different provisions, from each other and from Texas, on when and where you can possess a firearm and when it must or may not be concealed.

When I recently flew to Georgia to drive back a vehicle, I printed a copy of EACH states provisions. I strongly recommend that you do this and take the printouts with you to review during your trip. You will never remember each states particulars otherwise.

Have a safe trip.

I realize for specifics we need to read the laws of each state, but is there any web site which gives any overview for Texas CHL holders to see where we can carry in other states?

Yes, this is the official DPS website location. It lists states with reciprocity and those who Gov. Perry has issued unilateral declarations with.
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administra ... rocity.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also, check out this forum's General Section under OTHER STATES. AggieMM has done a good job of providing a map which graphically gives the info you seek. There is other good information there, too.

Hope this helps.

Roger that. I didn't make myself clear. I was wondering if there was a web site which has a breakdown of where we can carry in each state that recognizes Texas CHL, e.g. Alabama's churches, Louisiana's restaurants, or Florida's city parks.

I recall when I did my chl class there was a nice hand out which gave the basic places that you could and could not carry and if other states had that it would be nice. I'd probably read all the state's laws then get them cornfused so a state by state cheat sheet would be nice.

Many states' official websites have that information in their state police section, same as Texas.

For an unofficial rundown, this is a good site: http://handgunlaw.us/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

None that I'm aware of (packing.org came close, but is now AWOL). Even if there was, I'm not going to be too trusting without actually verifying the info myself.

I just took a trip to NC over the summer, and had these "official" links bookmarked you might be interested in:

http://www.lsp.org/handguns.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (LA)
http://www.dps.state.ms.us/dps/dps.nsf/ ... &Div=hp2fp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Of course, Google is your friend in these matters!

Awesome, thanks guys. I wish I knew programing for it would make a nice and lucrative web site or even $2.99 iPhone app to be able to click on one's home state then read the reciprocal laws of other states. I'll keep googling...

Since you are traveling, make sure you review and be concious of the restaurant allowances and restrictions...Some states do not have a 51% clause in the law that gives you leave to carry in a restaurant that may also have a bar or that it serves alcohol...

All this because it may be you are not going in an RV or other traveling vehicle that you live sleep and eat out of...

Some states I have noticed do not allow access (to concealed carry capable citizens) to establishments that serve any alcohol, regardless if they are a restaurant or not...

Just keep your eyes peeled...But for all intents and puposes, you are good all the way to Florida now, my Dad just made the trip to watch the last shuttle launch and we went over these issues...

Some basic rules
Stay away from Schools,
Its OK now to to go in any of the mentioned states to go into a convienience store.
Florida and Louisianan are Ok with restaurants ,.. just stay away from the bar areas.
In Florida don't carry in Seminole Indian reservation Hard Rock Cafe.
don't carry into any cassino.
None of those states seem to be the least bit interested in seein your CHL if pulled over. I show mine anyway, and explain its Texas law.
Use common sense. Don't be drinking while carrying Keep it concealed

If you are traveling with someone that doesn't have a CHL concider:

Without a CHL. car carry it is legal in Louisianna and Mississippi. In Florida it has to be in a console or glovebox that closes with a latch.

It's not allowed in Alabama without a CHL.

Important because I always travel with 2 guns, one on hip one concealed in the car. .. Its been important to me to consider my wife's exposure when I step out to get gas or check into a hotel.

Can't remember if this has been posted here before; but try the pack-n-go trip planner.
