In case some don't know, it's like a federal offense to cross into MX with firearms or ammo.
Because of this, it occurred to me, should their be a state sponsored area for secure stowage or should it be left to the business sector? This question came to me when I was traveling from Corpus Christi to Laredo, to visit some relatives in Nuevo Laredo at the time. I wanted to get an idea from you guys if their were a viable solution.

Maybe a Mexican state sponsored area. I wouldn't want my taxes going to such a thing. I pay enough, and the truth is that the drug runners would find more use for such a thing than us CHLs .. Do we really want to make it easier for Americans to spend money in Mexico.

This would be the biggest waste of tax payers money. Like stated, it would seldom be used for legit purposes if used at all. Best thing would be to find someone to leave it with.

I like spending money in Mexico. I go to Garcia's in Matamoros every year. I recommend the Garcia's especial.

I wouldn't have much trust if they created some place on the Mexican border. I can just imagine the harassment and problems on that side of it. But while thinking about it, you can't really trust the authorities on this side either.
I'm not saying it should be a tax payer issue, it could be a business enterprise too. Also wondering how long they would be able to stay open given the liability and security matters.
The alternative to taking your gun on long drives is to leave it at home. What if you don't have any relatives near, or that you trust. So, would you leave your pistol with an estranged family member?

I have left my gun in the safe at the hotel I was staying at on the border, I have left it locked in a box in my locked car. I won't drive my own car in Mexico so it really hasn't been an issue. With the drug gangs on both sides of the border these might be the prime customers of any such business.

Actually the news I read about Houston and the Civil rights violations in Galveston scares me more than a short visit to most places in Mexico. Short visit in safer places is pretty safe. Spending lots of time in Houston or Galveston is pretty risky these days. I feel safer on a 4 hour visit to Progresso, or 10 day stay in Monterreye than I do just driving inside the loop. There are some border towns I won't go to after dark, others I won't go to at all. Everyone has their own comfort level.

FWIW Garcias is awesome, Im gonna be kinda depressed when I dont get to go anymore . Ive also worked downtown Houston getting off work around 3:45am and going to your car is an eye opening experience. Good thing my building was smart carded and you could take the tunnel if you had to.

My wife and I used to go to Progresso quite a bit. You can't pay me enough to go again.

Mexico is downright scary.
Used to go there 25 years ago in college.
It was probably scary then, but I was in my young n dumb phase.
But I won't step foot in a border town any more.
