J. Gilligans

I was in Arlington today. Stopped into J. Gilligans Bar & Grill for a quick burger (1st time visit) at lunch time.
The main parking lot is on the north side of the building. As you enter the building the left side is for food,
the right side is a bar. However, I saw no 51% signs anywhere. I found only the blue Unlawful Carry sign at
the rear of the food side, stuck on the wall with a bunch of other stuff. You really had to look for it to even
find it. When finished eating, I walked over to the bar side and was unable to find a 51% sign or any other
sign. It looked like a bar, smelled like a bar. Just wondering if the place sells so much food that they are
considered a "Blue" establishment rather than "Red". And yes, I carried the whole time.
Checked Tx3006.com and found nothing. If any Arlingtonites can provide info I would appreciate it.
Btw, the burger and home cut fries were good.

Good grief! I can't believe they are not a 51% establishment! Have you been in the bar area and seen the 85 spigots of draft beer they have coming out of their wall? It's a beer drinkers Mecca, Nervana....or Valhalla, as the case might be.

I honestly have never noticed it, but I will make a point to the next time I'm there. Wifey used to eat there for lunch all the time, as she used to work right across the street(on Border) from it.

Next time you're in there, ask to see their liquor license.

That's the only way to be 100% sure.

If it says "SIGN=RED" Then it's 51%.

Or wait until next month and don't enter if they have a 51% sign. :thumbs2:

Never been in J. Gilligan's but it sounds much like a Chili's to me. Least the one down the street. Bar area is probably about a third of the total area. I can't imagine that they do near 51% overall. From observation at Chili's I'd think for lunch time alcohol consumption would be way less than 5%.

Actually, it's the other way around. The beer hall is about 3 times the size of the eating area. They are 2 separate and apart areas, with solid walls separating them.

Locally they are very famous for throwing the St. Patrick's Day beer bash. It's an older building, that's been added on to 2 or 3 times. It looks to be late 50's or early 60's construction. I believe the south wall of the beer hall is about 40' long, and nothing but beer spigots coming out of the wall....I'd say a good 30 or 40 varieties, to try to pin it down.

As it's not far from UTA, the college crowd frequents it by the droves at night time.

Not so fast, keep reading. It's what is NOT listed that IS important to know. Hint "FB".

I would not carry in there given what is shown on the TABC web site until I had more information (personally saw the actual license).
