An idea for posted businesses

#1

Post by cjlandry »

I read another thread somewhere about people passing out the No Guns = No Money cards.

My idea is that we get a list of posted businesses, along with their addresses (and owners/managers names if possible), then everyone sends letters to them.

This way they're bombarded with a lot of letters, and this may give them the idea that they're losing a lot of money by turning lawfully armed citizens away.

The letters should be written in a professional manner, with no insulting remarks or stereotypical "gun nut" language.

If this has already been done, or if there's already such a list going, let me know. There are a lot of forums on this site, and I'm still not familiar with all of them.

Do any of you think this is a good idea?

Sounds like a good idea. I'd be interested in the list of who has a 30.06 sign so I can watch out for them and not walk in carrying by mistake.

I think you are on to something. This site, while it has no peers in quality, is small in comparison to some.

With somewhere in the neighborhood of 250,000 chls in Texas, it could become a significant force if directed in a pro-active nature. I rarely see anything of a proactive activism. If one were to co-ordinate over half a dozen of the CCW forums, and could encourage activism, it would be a very good thing, imo.

Thge only drawback to overcome that I see is that many really don't want anyone to know they carry concealed. So, getting them to put there name on a letter, maybe really extreme for them.

That's a very good point.

An angle that I hadn't considered.

I always carry a small notebook in my pocket, and I will start listing all the places I see with 30.06 signs. Should this list include hospitals? I've only spotted two of these signs in Corpus Christi so far. One on a hospital, another on a liquor store.

Yes, the liquor store had the proper sign, not the 51% sign.

Below their 30.06 sign, they even have a note with a phone number to call TABC if you want to complain about their sign.

the only proper 30-06 sign I have seen so far is at the Best Buy in Austin and the manager states he is the one that placed it and gave me there corp. office number if I had a complant.

Has anyone else seen a 30-06 at there best buys???

the wife stated that the Cosco also had a 30-06 but I haven't seen it .

The Best Buy here doesn't have a sign. I've never been in a Costco.

Where can we start a listing of their names and contact info?

I'm thinking that, even if you're from out of town, you could write a letter that says something like, "While I was vacationing in Corpus Christi, I stopped to buy something from your business and couldn't enter because of your 30.06 sign."

That's why I posted it here, to get ideas and opinions. Thanks for your input.

I did consider the possibility that being hit with massive amounts of letters would be seen as harrassment. That's why I decided to post here, where there isn't a huge amount of traffic.

I believe that several letters will get the point across better than a single face to face encounter, or a single letter.

Again, this is why I posted it here. I want to know what others think about it.

I can understand your thinking it's a bad idea. But "one of the absolute worst ideas, ever"? Wow! I must be a real idiot to come up with something that historically significant!

Any number of individuals writing letters is not harrassment, unless the letters contain threats or insults. Do you have any idea how many letters a newspaper gets when they publish something unpopular, or a coach when he loses a big game? Well, I don't either, but I'll bet it's more than 100.

Well, maybe Charles could start a whole new forum called 30.06 businesses. Then we could start threads with individual towns names and then list the business under those town names, so that WE would know in advance where to avoid... or... if we're in the area, we could drop by and give them a card and strike up a pleasant converstaion with the owners/managers.

I think thats one of the best ideas in here so far. It gives them more to think about, especially if the card is followed up by a polite letter. That displays a more profound effect than just a card or just a letter. To follow up means a lot these days.

30.06 List

#12

Post by Commander »

There has been discussion before about creating a list of 30.06 postings. As I recall, Charles is not opposed to it but had questions about how to structure it and keep it current.

I personally like the idea, but for it to have value it needs to be valid and current.

The OP, who would be posting about locals, would be tasked with checking on the store/shop/whatever say once a month/twice a month and keep us informed by editing his post.

For instance, Taco Cabana in Buleson (927 N. Burleson Blvd.) would be mine, they have a 30.06 sign AND a unlicensed possession next to each other. It would be my responsibility to report on that business since I was the first to post on them in the first place.
