CHL is not ID
In a separate thread I said I thought i saw a faq online that a CHL could be used as ID, the same as any picture ID from the state.
I could not find the faq reference, but anecdotal evidence pro & con. So i emailed the DPS. The Q&A is posted below with the short answer from the legal staff.

Subject: CHL as identification
Just a small question. I saw somewhere that anyone that accepts a Texas
Driver's license or Texas Id for identification puposes, such as check
cashing, must also accept the Texas CHL license as ID.
I thought i read that in a FAQ in one of the Texas online venues, but
cannot find it now. Can you confirm or deny this?
Thank You,

No, a CHL is not an ID for such purposes.

Here was an older discussion at the highroad. (thehighroad is down a lot lately) http://tinyurl.com/o7acs
There is no malice inposting this link, even though we know many of the posters.

Several years ago while cashing a check at a drive through bank, I accidentally sent my CHL through the shute instead of my DL. They cashed the check and said, "Have a nice day." I wonder if they thought I was trying to make a statement by doing that or if they thought I'd just made a mistake.

Re: CHL is not ID
I believe you are referring to HB 362, "Anyone who accepts a driver's license as ID for a particular purpose must also accept a CHL". Filed 1/11/05, it has not passed.lrb111 wrote:In a separate thread I said I thought i saw a faq online that a CHL could be used as ID, the same as any picture ID from the state.

Re: CHL is not ID
Thats it! I remember reading that on the TCHA (TX Concealed Handgun Assoc. website) for the '05 Leg. Session. Perhaps this issue will be addressed once again in the '07 Session.lrb111 wrote:In a separate thread I said I thought i saw a faq online that a CHL could be used as ID, the same as any picture ID from the state.
