speeding ticket / warning

#1

Post by IzzI »

I'm quite confused. was pulled over for speeding on my bike , in a speed trap zone.
Was told i was doing 40 in a 30. I didn't argue but insisted in a very polite manner that NO ONE is more aware or the speed limit/trap than i am and i just smiled and said "i can't believe i did that" I handed over my insurance,DL and CHL and prepared myself to get a ticket. No sense in arguing. The officer then asked me if i was carrying. I said yes. He asked where? I answered "on me". He then asked where is it at? I told him it was in my waistband. Then he said "show me" I'm thinking to myself...... what!
I carefully lifted my shirt so he could see it and he said "well thats neat".
I really didn't know what to think,i just made sure that my hand did not go near it.
I still don't know what to think as i don't know what LEO procedures and parrameters are. just thought i would share.
He was polite and gave me a warning so i did not get a ticket.

Very strange conversation. I am glad that it worked out well for you.

Sounds like he was trying to show you that he approved of your CCW.

Most LEOs I know are dedicated fans of the CHL program. He might have just been interested to do some research on carrying for future knowledge, but I'd bet it was his attempt at giving you a supportive wink or a thumbs up. My BIL is a LEO - we've been to gun shows where he wanted to look at all of the concealed equipment for vehicles so that he was aware of what the BGs have access to. He saw a few things that made him say, "Huh. I'd never of thought of that."

I had the same thing happen when I got a warning for fireworks in Roanoke back in high school. The officer told us we were in city limits and not allowed to shoot them off. The he pointed at one of the mortars and asked, "What does that one do?" He asked us to show him and said he'd just bought the same one for his son. We'd extinguished the punk when he drove up, so we had issues getting it lit. At one point he teased us by saying, "Now don't make me give you a ticket because you can't get this firework lit."

Better to have him ask you the questions and not write the ticket than remain silent as he filled out your citation! :txflag:

Maybe he could not tell you were actually carrying and wanted to see where or confirm where he thought it was concealed. Especially since he asked where it was. I would look at this as being a good reflection on your ability to conceal your pistol - I say Good Job! :tiphat:
