I sure hope not. One of the instructor's tasks is to stop those from getting a CHL who obviously do not need state-approval to carry a loaded gun either due to iffy mental state or inability to safely carry a gun.

This would be a potentially anti-gun factor. No live, in-person assessment of a person's capacity to responsibly carry a gun? It would be like Oswald-style mail-ordering. You know how that ended up.

I couldn't agree more, this would be VERY DANGEROUS if it were to happen, but you never know. I think the paperwork and red tape of CHL is annoying DPS too much, so I hope they are not seriously considering this (to reduce paperwork/load). :confused5

A change to the statute requires online renewal courses for CHL Instructors, but it merely authorizes DPS to approve renewal classes for CHL holders. I seriously doubt we'll see Internet courses for licensees.

OK, I think that makes sense, I had heard some of this in the context of Instructors.

Virginia has been doing this since July. Here's one of the online concealed carry courses:

Carrying since 02/06/2009.

How long does the test take and what is its level of difficulty? What is a passing score?
The test consists of 20 questions of different types: True/False, Multiple Choice, and Fill-In-The-Blank.
Thank Gawd I don't live in Virginia! :txflag:

So, what do you do for the shooting part of the class, shoot your monitor? Bad idea IMHO. :tiphat:

On one renewal, the Instructor will go to another Instructor to shoot the course, then two years later we will have to go to DPS to shoot again.

It's for instructor renewal IN TEXAS.

Other states do things their way.

True. However, there must be other requirements (I hope -- didn't look much farther on the Virginia site to check)

Normal Texas CHL renewals online might be a good idea. I can see that you still might have to go to an instructor for the shooting test. That is still better and likely cheaper than having to sit in a class for 8 or 10 hours to take the test.

Lots of states don't require any class at all, and they seem to do just fine.

What part of the second amendment says we have to take a class in order to be able to defend ourselves? :???:
