Missouri City resident shoots attacker

A Missouri City man was able to get the drop on a pair of armed robbers Wednesday, shooting one several times as the other fled, authorities said.
The resident, 20, was working on a car in the driveway of his parents’ home on Glenwild at Hickory Glen about 3 p.m. when the robbers pulled up in a gold-colored Toyota Avalon.
Two men got out of car, including one who was carrying a rifle, Missouri City police said.
“They rushed the 20-year-old and started demanding money,” said Missouri City Police Capt. John Bailey.
The man told the robbers he didn’t have any money.
“But, they didn’t believe him,” Bailey said. “They forced him into the house.”
After he was forced upstairs, the man managed to grab a pistol and began shooting at the attackers, striking one several times, Bailey said.
The man later told police he didn’t know the robbers.
Police said a blood trail started in a second-floor bedroom and ended in the driveway, where the wounded attacker collapsed.
He was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital - Texas Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
The resident received minor injuries during a scuffle with the robbers. He was treated at an area hospital.

It happened in broad daylight, in what appears to be a nice middle class neighborhood with fairly new homes.
It is just another example of how crime can occur at any hour of the day, anywhere in the city, and can happen to anyone.
The young man acted very bravely under extreme stress. My hat's off to him.

Is it my imagination or are the bad guys getting more brazen with each passing day?

Yeah, the Google street view shows this was a "nice neighborhood", where I bet "nothing ever happens".
That's funny, I thought I said the same thing earlier, but now it isn't showing up on the thread. Maybe I clicked the wrong button.

I think the bad guys are getting more brazen. We need to be more aware.

It's early morning, I am having my coffee and I am sitting here in front of the computer in my robe with my S&W 642 Crimson Trace in my robe pocket loaded with HST +P's.
And, I live in the country! If I lived in town, I would probably have one in each pocket like Carl does!

I'll bet his mom doesn't even complain about the carpet stains. Dirtbags beware we the people have had it with your theft, robbery, rape, and murder. We are much more willing to defend ourselves and families than anytime in the last 100 years.
The only thing that bothers me with this is the tax bill for trying to save this guy so the county can invest more money to try him. Then pay for his attendance at the TDC finishing school of crime, when he graduates he will have a better understanding of what he and his buddy did wrong for the next time.

More brazen sounds like well-reasoned thoughts. Less bright, more stupid perhaps.

As the economy continues to go south, the BG's are forced to be more aggressive.03Lightningrocks wrote:Is it my imagination or are the bad guys getting more brazen with each passing day?

At the risk of sounding like an old guy, I think it is being caused by the "rap" culture. Everything about it encourages violence and gangs. Being a "gang member" is something to be proud of in the "rap" culture.

Re: Home invasion, Missouri City leaves 1BG in critical conditio
In the 50s rock and roll music and comic books were blamed for "juvenile delinquency" and the increase of gangs, drug use and violent crime. In the 60s, it was "sex, drugs and rock and roll." In retrospect, I don't think that Elvis and the Beatles led to degrading women, drive-by shootings and home invasions.03Lightningrocks wrote:At the risk of sounding like an old guy, I think it is being caused by the "rap" culture. I know that it's a simplistic explanation, but I think that the root cause of this violent behavior and the complete disregard for life is the breakdown of the traditional family structure and the loss of moral values. IMO "rap culture" is a result of this decay, rather than the cause. The "rap culture" is being propagated by record, television and movie companies who are making billions of dollars by promoting it. What is really disturbing is that I see the same influence not only in the US, but also in foreign countries. As long as they keep raking in the dough, they don't care about the effect on the little people.
How's that for sounding like an old guy?

At the risk of sounding like a young guy who listens to rap, I disagree. This 'gangsta' rap culture is a reflection of where some in society have gone, not what pushed them there. While there is a certain amount of 'life imitates art', that is not the cause any more than violent video games, the evening news, or Hollywood's glorification of violence.
The bad guys made a concious choice, and while they may have had influences, they are not compelled to do bad things because of those influences. (Exceptions made for the truly disturbed who take orders from alphabet soup, of course).

Anyone know some stats on BG's returning to their victims place sometime in the future for revenge?? That's the thing that always makes me nervous about a successful encounter at home...
