Passed the Class!!!
Took the CHL course over weds-thurs, I am pleased with my shooting and written test scores.
Is it faster to hand it in and pay and the local DPS? Can I go to the DPS on I-35 and 183 or do I need to go to the central Austin DPS?

Congratulations fadlan12!!
Now the long wait. But, if you keep yourself busy with continued range practice, re-reading the CHL booklet, visiting TexasCHLforum and digging through all the great posts here and checking out holsters for concealed carry you'll find the time will pass at least somewhat quickly!

Congratulations fadland. We are glad to see another legally armed citizen on the street as soon as the plastic arrives.
Carry 24-7 or guess right.

CHL Austin
Fadland,
Take it to the CHL Office on Denson just off Airport Blvd. The office is located "off campus" from the main DPS complex in Austin. Get ready the place is a zoo as they handle SR and DL stuff there too. I don't think you'll have to wait in the long line to drop it off. Find somebody at the info booth and tell them what you are doing.

Re: Passed the Class!!!
Your application package must be sent to the address noted on the envelope provided to you by the DPS.
IMPORTANT: Be sure you send your application package by an accountable method such as certified mail with return receipt. Things do get lost... and from what I have seen by my students they get found when you provide proof of delivery.
FWIW

CHL delivery
You can take your CHL application in person to the DPS Office on Denson in Austin. That is exactly what I did in March of this year on my renewal. Mail sent to the address on the DPS envelope ends up on Denson.
jbirds is correct, it doesn't speed up the process any, just gives you peace of mind that the application is in the proper hands.

Fee
Can you pay the fee with a CC at the Denson office?....that I don't know. I did my renewal on line and paid by CC that way. I merely dropped off the forms on Denson. If they do take a CC payment, you'll have to wait through an extremely long line to get your turn. I'm not sure the wait would be worth it.

I believe your officially waiting now :) welcome!fadlan12 wrote:I called the DPS # on the CHL website, they said the denson office had some complaints about the applications being filed under the DL instead of CHL when brought into the office in person. I mailed it certified mail today. Do go to the waiting room now or when I get a pin?
