At SHOT Armatix showed off .22cal that requires a matching wristwatch before it will work. Wired reports that the watch sends a wireless arming signal to the gun. If the gun is picking up a signal from the watch, an LED on the back lights up green. If there's no watch signal, a red warning light appears.

So in a dark room, your position is already marked due to the light.
If you're shot, your friend/wife/son can't pick up the gun and defend themselves.
....it's a .22.
That is the ugliest watch in history.

What if you have to shoot weak-handed?

Would almost rather have the guns that were in the movie "Shoot 'em Up" that were fingerprint activated... but as MadMonkey said, your (insert other here) can't use it to defend if you're incapacitated.

What if the battery in the watch dies?
Looks like a solution desperately looking for a problem.....

So.
Its Eltronic and its attached to a gun...yeah that never fails
You gotta wear a Watch or Band to use it (Its 2 AM I took my watch off to sleep, what was the noise? Where is my Watch?)
IS it Water Proof?
SO to STOP your gun from working I just need a signal jammer
Battery's dead, so are you.

How many real guns could I buy with $10K?
20 glocks or 10 Kimbers. Or maybe a gun safe full of ARs with ammo to burn. Shoot, I could buy a couple of full auto machine guns. Better yet I could buy one of every holster ever made for my CC and actually find the perfect holster for "my body type".
I can think of many better ways to spend 10 Large.

Be VERY AFRAID. This is the direction the antis are heading as soon as they realize banning guns is a lost cause (possibly after a ruling in our favor in the Chicago case?). Electronically controlled firearms, chip-encoded ammunition, all able to be de-activated at the push of a button by your friendly local law enforcement agency or the Feds.
Paranoid?
Talk to me in 15 years.

Austinrealtor has a very valid point but I only need to look three years into the future, not 15. Does anyone else here remember that New Jersey passed a law several years ago that required that no guns be sold without this smartgun technology within three years after a workable version was introduced to the market? I might be remembering this wrong, but I think it was NJ and three years and is still on the books. What has saved us before was that the gun companies were not really interested in doing it and did not push for the magnetic rings to be improved enough to make it, but it looks like we (well NJ residents) may have a problem very soon.

you're wrong about about that....all they gotta do is get to your body, take your watch off, clean the blood off the watch, put in on their dominant wrist, clasp the buckle, and voila ready for defense!

10K would get you a great .45 caliber weapon, lot's of ammo, and hours of weapon retention and H2H skills.
All of this > the .22 smart phaser looking thing.

Last time I heard about this was when I watched this video of it failing.

A much classier watch: " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And a few donations to various candidates who will make sure you get to keep them.
AndyC wrote:Most people I heard of that were shot with their own firearms were plugged at close range - so how far does that wireless signal travel?
Irrelevant; if the guy just took your gun from you, you're going to be trying really hard to get your hands back on it, so the ugly watch you're wearing on the wrong arm will still be within inches of it.
