How much longer?!?!?!

#1

Post by Suckhow »

Geeze oh petes! I sent my application on Jan 16th. It's almost been 100 days now, what gives? I called about 2 weeks ago, and the person who had my file said everything was okay, and that she just had to input it into the computer and that my CHL was already manufactured. But that was TWO WEEKS AGO!! The website seems absolutely useless, as it has read "Processing Application" for months. I consider myself a pretty patient man, but this is getting ridiculous.

This may be the worst I've heard. Was your application complete, or did you have to resubmit fingerprints, sign an affidavit, or anything like that? If so, the 60 days starts to run from the time DPS has a complete application.

Here is what my wife and son had to do: Call DPS and tell them it has been 100 days and you need your CHL now. Be VERY nice, but when she tells you "we're running a little behind," politely remind her that the statute doesn't provide for "running a little behind." My wife and son had theirs within 5 days of each of their calls.

Also, please post something about this on the thread dealing with processing time. I hope to use this information in the 2007 Texas Legislative Session.

Welcome to the forum.

Regards,
Chas.

Mine was nearly 120 days from complete application to CHL in my hand, so I know the feeling well. Phone calls to a live person worked well for me though.

Kalrog, when did you send in the application? Was it recent? Did you find the website useful? I have read that some people had recieved their CHL and gone back to the website days, and weeks later, only to find that the website still say "Processing Application"

I hand delivered my completed application the first week of December, 2004.

I found the website helpful, but I wish there were a bunch more categories of what status your application is in. It doesn't change often enough to be of real value and the instant email reply that says it will take about 60 days to process is very perturbing when you are well beyond that. It was at that point that I called and spoke to a live person who then moved my application to the top of the pile and got it moving.

60 days needs to mean 60 days, but it should really be 15. The NICS check is with the feds and that takes a max of 3 days. Texas should be MORE efficient than the feds, not less.

I sent mine in after you and already got it over a week ago. You should keep making noise on the phone.

Well we will see how long it takes. I applied for the packet March 2, 2005 got it in 5 days took the chl course Saturday 4-23-05 and mailed completed packet. I paid my $140 fee when I applied for the packet March 2, 2005. Does DPS do any time of background check before the class is taken?

I don't think DPS does anything with your application until they have the fingerprint cards.

I don't think they do anything with it, until you call them and beg for it.

just kidding

I sent my application in March 4th, emailed them about 3 weeks ago, and she emailed me back saying it should be here by the end of April. That sure is getting close.... and the website still says "Processing"
