Re: Moody Gardens
It is not by statute an Amusement park.
It has been several yrs since we were there but it was not then.
Someone should give a more recent report today.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Re: Moody Gardens
Does not matter if it is not posted with valid 30.06, no?

Re: Moody Gardens
Nothing in Galveston is legally posted, just a few obsolete or bogus signs.
Moody Gardens is not an amusement park. It has no rides, and the population of the county is less than a million. Only Six Flags and Sea World meet the legal specifications under that useless statute.

Re: Moody Gardens
IMO (INAL) it's not an amusement park. There is not controlled access to the complex, just the areas where there are a fee. There are also no rides. I do not know of any 30.06 signage there, but it's been a long time since I have been inside the buildings besides the hotel. Theo hotel/convention center is not posted.

Re: Moody Gardens
Funding comes through the foundation, so even though the City of Galveston has some ties to it, and potentially some of the land, I don't think all of it belongs to the city, so I personally wouldn't carry there they have a 30.06 sign posted.

Re: Moody Gardens
The City of Galveston owns every square inch of Moody Gardens.
But it isn't posted, so why do people insist on trying to make water run up a rope?

Re: Moody Gardens
Thanks Jim. From reading their website, I assumed it had been a lot of private property. With that said, it would not be valid for 30.06 then.

Re: Moody Gardens
The foundational principles that established Moody Gardens as an untaxed non-profit required it to be on publicly owned land. The city owns a big swatch of land in that area including Moody Gardens, the golf course, and the airport. I don't know who owns the improvements (i.e., buildings) at Moody Gardens. It's a real complicated legal issue.

Re: Moody Gardens
You know...just about the time I get it figured out, here comes another slew of questions about where it's legal to carry, valid signs and the such.
I've about decided that if:
if it ain't 30.06 posted,
ain't a school or school event,
ain't a courthouse,
ain't a professional sporting event,
ain't a federal employee place,
ain't an amusement park,
ain't an airport,
I can carry my CHL CONCEALED weapon with impunity. Did I leave anything out?

Re: Moody Gardens
Within 1,000 feet of a place of execution on the day of execution, if so directed by officials in charge.
And I might add that the only place of execution is the Walls Unit in Huntsville.
Primary and secondary schools in other states.

Re: Moody Gardens
Thanks. I'm a simple guy and simple rules are the best rules for simple guys. I don't go to bars and polling places are an occasional thing and I don't want to go to any correctional facilities.Crossfire wrote:Bars, Polling Place, Correctional FacilityOldgringo wrote:You know...just about the time I get it figured out, here comes another slew of questions about where it's legal to carry, valid signs and the such.

Thanks again for confirming the simplification.

Re: Moody Gardens
I'll be visiting amusement parks with about the same regularity as I go into bars and correctional facilities but THANKS anyway.Beiruty wrote:Read 46.035 again you can lawfully carry concealed in amusement park unless posted with a valid 30.06
