How do you usually carry?
Cocked and Locked?
Round chambered, hammer down, DA?
Chamber empty, have to rack slide to be good to go?
just curious.
I carry my USP Compact with a round chambered and the hammer down. I can carry cocked and locked, but dont usually, unless its bad place or something.

Depends on the gun - - - if a 1911 or other single action, condition one (loaded, cocked and locked) - - - DAO round in chamber - - - DA round in chamber, decocked, safety off - - - revolver, loaded. Any gun without a round in the chamber is an expensive rock.

I always carry the firearm in a condition of readiness appropriate for the action type.

Ditto.
I carry 1911's 95% of the time and carry cocked & locked on a loaded chamber, thumb safety on. As a side note, when doing this, make sure your thumb safety has a positive "click" when going on and off. I've seen many over the years that seem to mush on and off and some "mush" easier than others! These would worry me.
Regards,
Chas.

I carry my XD9 with cocked stiker on loaded chamber. No external safeties but it does have the 1911-style grip safety which is nice as well as the trigger safety.

Glock 26, one in the chamber.

1911 - Cocked and locked
XD9 - Cocked and loaded
.32NAA Guardian - Loaded (it's DA only)(pocket or backup gun only, a gun to carry when I can't carry a gun)
PPK/S Loaded and hammer down (DA first shot)(ibid)

Are we related?? :) I was right with you until the PPK. Mine's a Sig P230.
1911 is in a Milt Sparks executive companion
XD9 is in a Milt Sparks versamax II
NAA Gaurdian is in a Ron Graham wallet
Sig P230 in Milt Sparks executive companion OR Don Hume 715
Then there's the Glock 27 in a Milt Sparks watch six or a Galco Deep Cover.

Would it be unwise to carry my USPC cocked and locked? it has a thumb safety/decocker, and it will work DA for first shot, or I can pack with hammer back, ready to go with a nice quick SA pull. I like the 2 safety idea of the 1911 model .45s, but with the HK only having the thumb safety, would Cond. 1 be foolish and unsafe?
thanks,
nick

Carrying the USP cocked and locked is perfectly acceptable. The KISS theory dictates carrying it decocked and unlocked. Less stuff to do in a stress situation.
Always Ready

Kimber & Springfield 1911 cocked and locked - "Condition One".
Kel-Tec DAO all calibers - round chambered. Pull trigger and it goes bang.
Loaded clips always in mag holder and/or pocket.
Also, really sharp knife in pocket.
You have to be ready to rock and roll when it counts the most.

High, I don't know if we're related, I have a lot of TX relatives, but I think the most obvious thing is that great minds think alike.
The PPK/S is actually my wife's.
