Sea World and/or San Antonio Zoo - Either One Posted??
I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm too lazy to do a search right now. The last time I was at Sea World it wasn't posted. Does anyone know if that has changed? What about the San Antonio Zoo? Is it posted?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Last I heard, Sea World wasn't posted, but they searched bags. Carry on your person shouldn't be a problem, but carry in a fanny pack or a purse could give them a chance to give verbal notice.
The San Antonio Zoo is City-owned, so they can't post a binding 30.06 sign, anyway.

Does Sea World fall under the definition of an amusement park? I think it does, and if so, may be prohibited for carry...
PC §46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE
HOLDER.
...
(b) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of whether the handgun is concealed, on or about the license holder's person:
...
(5) in an amusement park; or
...
(f) In this section:
(1) "Amusement park" means a permanent indoor or outdoor facility or park where amusement rides are available for use by the public that is located in a county with a population of more than one million, encompasses at least 75 acres in surface area, is enclosed with access only through controlled entries, is open for operation more than 120 days in each calendar year, and has security guards on the premises at all times. The term does not include any public or private driveway, street, sidewalk or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other parking area.

True, but they have metal detectors, so they will pick up your handgun. If they oppose carry, they'll give verbal notice then. Then you'll have to go back to your vehicle to stash your weapon & hope no one notices you stashing it...kw5kw wrote:no 30.06 sign, no enforcement
46.035 (b)(5) in an amusement park; or
SEE 46.035 (i) which reads: Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply if the actor was not given effective notice under Section 30.06.

I've been told Sea World does NOT have metal detectors. I know they didn't have them when I was there last and several folks who have been there recently have said that hasn't changed.
Can anyone confirm that the zoo is owned by the city? The Fort Worth Zoo is posted and they get around the law by saying that it's leased to someone else and they're the ones that put the sign up. I just want to make sure the San Antonio zoo isn't the same way.

Sorry... I thought someone said it had metal detectors. If not, then have at it (and good on 'em for not!).Braden wrote:I've been told Sea World does NOT have metal detectors. This just goes to show; you should always read the ENTIRE law before making decisions. The DA certainly has, shouldn't you?kw5kw wrote:no 30.06 sign, no enforcement

Ft. Worth Zoo posting doesn't hold water. PC30.06 (e):Braden wrote:I've been told Sea World does NOT have metal detectors. I know they didn't have them when I was there last and several folks who have been there recently have said that hasn't changed.

As Charles explained in another thread about 30.06 postings at gun shows on city- or county-owned properties, a lessee cannot impose restrictions that the lessor cannot impose. Since the city cannot post a binding 30.06 notice, neither can the entity leasing the property from the city. They can put a sign up, but it doesn't mean anything legally. It is an exception to the application of this section that the property
on which the license holder carries a handgun is owned or leased
by a governmental entity and is not a premises or other place on which
the license holder is prohibited from carrying the handgun under
Section 46.03 or 46.035.
However, I may have jumped the gun on stating that the SA Zoo was city-owned, as I can now find no information confirming that. My apologies. The last time I went I don't recall seeing any signs, but that was pre-CHL (for me), so I could be mistaken. I will see if I can find more info about who owns the zoo.

Their website says they do not receive any "ongoing governmental support" which would indicate that I was completely wrong about it being owned by the City of San Antonio.

Sea World did not have metal detectors this summer when we visited, the did "search" bags. But I think I could ahve smuggled anything short of a rifle or shoulder fired missle in. You open the bag, they glance at it. That was the "search".
I could find no info on the SA Zoo's ownership. You might call and simply inquire as to if the City of SA owns it or not. Do not mention you reason!!!!

I was at Seaworld on two occasions over the summer. Bags may or may not be searched, no signage and no metal detectors.
BUT, take it from me, if you sit in the splash zone, better have your pistola in a ziplock bag. Not a generic wannabe, a real ziplock bag.

I was thinking I might just call them up and say, "Hey, I'm thinking of bringing my gun to the zoo. Is that okay?"TxFire wrote: I could find no info on the SA Zoo's ownership. You might call and simply inquire as to if the City of SA owns it or not. Do not mention you reason!!!!
Now...seriously...it sounds like I'm good to go for Sea World. I just need to do a bit more research on the zoo. I'm not real sure it's even a GOOD zoo, but my wife wants to go.
