Just over a year ago, I stuck my head up my fourth point of contact and went and got myself a public intox outside a bar. My own stupid fault, noone elses. I paid the fines and case closed. Will this stop me from getting a CHL in Texas? Also I owe a small tax to the state of Michigan. Not much, but more than I can affordto pay right now( no preaching please, I know I have to pay it, and I will) will this cause me to be rejected? I've already passed two background checks in Texas to buy other firearms. I just hate to pay all that money just to get turned down. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm going out on a limb here but why not pay your delinquent taxes and thereby reduce your Texas CHL eligibility concerns to the PI question?

I'd recommend using the CHL fee money to help pay down your debt to Michigan.

Public intoxication is a Class C misdemeanor so that won't be a problem. Nonpayment of taxes is only a disqualification if you owe Texas taxes. We don't care about Yankee money.

Thank you for the info mr. Cotton, the Yankee money comment was pretty funny. With that cleared up, can anyone recomend an instuctor n the League City area? I'd like for me and my wife to take the class together, so the cheaperthe better. We only have one pistol at the moment(Hi-Point 9mm), will that be an issue? Do we both need our own weapon or can we share? Thank you all for your replies and time.

Above is an excellent instructor. I do not know price structure there but my experience is Cheap CHL Instructors are just that.

You need QUALITY instruction. He is good, well referrenced, & well known on this board. I am not ashamed to say "My good friend." One awsome shot & a better instructor.

One handgun will not be an issue. You just will shoot in different relays.
9mm is good as a qualifying gun. Your Hi-Point will work as long as it is clean & functions reliably.

I am not sure where Tom is teaching right now but I think some of the time at the Arms Room there. He and I were shooting last Sunday and I asked him but my old brain already forgot what he told me. But he is good and local there. You can rent guns there too.

Most states will work out a payment plan. Call them and start paying them off. They can and will make your life miserable if you don't.

Tom Estep carries a bag full of guns to his classes along with ammo , just pay for the ammo and borrow his gun, that way you can qual together.
