There's a man who needs to think before he speaks. Though, it seems he did think and actually thought it was a good idea, which is honestly scarier.

Hope they don't take his certificate though, he hasn't actually done anything wrong yet.

Somebody whom he has actually discriminated against will have to file a complaint.

Guess it's a good thing I did not take his class. I for one think unless he does follow through and discriminate, he should keep his instructors license, we live in a country where, no matter how stupid it makes you sound, you can say almost anything you want.

As a marketing guy, I think it was brilliant.
But the discrimination issues were bound to draw fire.
I think he will be fine unless some Muslim calls his bluff.

Did the other thread get locked?
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

I'm not saying I agree or not......but.....beyond that is there anything in law that says he MUST give the class to someone he doesn't want to? I drive a tow truck and I can refuse any call I want anytime I want for basicly any reason I want. People pay him for his services. Does he not reserve the right to not refuse to take someone's money?

I'm with you. No law against saying stupid stuff. I mean, if there was... who would run the country? :patriot:

I think so. He can discriminate against political beliefs all he wants. But he cannot legally refuse service against someone on the basis of their membership in one of the protected classes. These include gender, race, color, religion, previous servitude, age (if over 40), and disability.

He can be sued in federal court if he actually does refuse to teach someone the class solely because they are Islamic.

Of course I could be wrong, but I am basing that on my understanding of the current state of civil rights laws and memory of the famous Georgia case where the restaurant three blocks from the highway was ruled to be engaged in interstate commerce since it could serve someone who had driven in from another state. This is well outside my normal areas I deal with, so there is a fair chance of my being wrong.

keye TV news interviewed him on news at ten tonight; had video interview on the News, not on website

1) he's never denied a class to anyone wanting to take it
2) he only intended the ad to be heard by the about 2,000 residents in that small town, of which there probably are no Muslims nor Arabs, and the town has no Mosques nearby, so doubt any would hear the local radio ad, but he did want to poke fun at his Democrat buddies (though he did teach them their classes)
3) DPS told Keye reporter that they are looking into it
4) Keller says that's news to him, no one has contacted him about any investigating.
Keller said that in the last six years of teaching the concealed carry class, he has never refused a student who has wanted to take it.

I doubt DPS is going to give him a call and say something like "Say, Bubbah... just thought we'd let you know that you're in deep Kimche".

As far as never turning down anyone who has wanted to take his class... if that's true, he might oghtna had said what he said on a federally licensed radio station. One of the little quirks about the federal civil rights law, if I remember correctly from my days working for a radio station way back when, is that someone who uses the airwaves to promote discrimination of a protected class (religion, ethnicity, etc.) is guilty of a separate violation of the civil rights law.

Maybe joking around like he did wasn't the smartest thing Mr. Keller ever did.

This being America, you can sue anyone for anything. Texas does now have loser pays. IIRC, if you have fewer than 15 employees, EEOC discrimination doesn't apply to your business, discriminating against customers may be different.

Doubtful Mr. Keller belongs to JPFO and his ad made it sound like I wouldn't be welcome in his class either as I'm not Christian. (I was at church tonight for a pastor's birthday party and I left as non-Christian as when I arrived. Still friends with the pastor though.) If Mr. Keller is acting like a pompous fool or worse, he's certainly not the first CHL instructor in the state to do so. Probably good marketing tactic for his region.

Catholic University in D.C. is being sued by a Muslim professor who works at a different school because he finds their crosses may be offensive to Muslim students (none of whom have complained). Mr. Keller should hope that particular professor doesn't catch wind of this ad.
it's socially unacceptable to be ahead of your time.

As I said over on TGT he can say whatever he wants, it is what he does that matters.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances

Looks to me like it was just in good fun. Hate to see him loose his license. Knowing Mason I doubt there are any other CHL instructors close to the area.
