Completed forms: Mail in or submit online?
I'm taking my 2nd renewal class this weekend. I submitted my initial information on line and received the "barcode" email. It says after I complete the class I can mail the form in or submit it online:
"Thank you for using Texas.gov to submit your Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) Concealed Handgun Licensing Handgun License Renewal application.
See the checklist for additional items that must be sent to TxDPS. Your application will be considered "incomplete" until all checklist items have been received. To assist in the processing of your application, please make sure you include a copy of your receipt page and all of the items on your checklist before mailing.
Texas Department of Public Safety
Concealed Handgun Licensing Program, MSC 0245
PO Box 4087
Austin, TX 78773-0245
You may also submit your documentation online at https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/contact/default.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. "
So, am I understanding this correctly? Can I just scan and attach the documents on the website instead of mailing them in? Has anyone done this? Is it better than mailing?
Thanks!

Last I heard, they must be mailed in, however it looks as though it is set up to recive it now online. If they do not accept it that way they will just e-mail you stateing it must be mailed in. Me personally I would try it.

Re: Completed forms: Mail in or submit online?
I'll ask about it at my renewal class tomorrow but I was just wondering if anyone has done it before.
EDIT:
I just found this thread which shows where at least one person successfully submitted the completed form online. I'll still ask about it in class but it looks like they are making the process easier.

Re: Completed forms: Mail in or submit online?
Well, to answer my own question, it looks like you don't have to mail your paperwork in if it's a renewal. You can upload the CHL-100 and checklist via the link they provided (see original post.)
I took the renewal class on 06/10/12, called DPS on 06/11/12 and asked if I could upload documents. After a little confusion (the lady mentioned I couldn't upload pics and I told her this was a renewal and pics weren't required) - she then told me I could upload them. So, I uploaded the CHL-100 and checklist a week ago today (06/11/12) and I logged in to check my status and it shows:
Application : Received
Fingerprints : Under review
Affidavits : Received
DL or ID : Valid
Citizenship : No documentation required
Passport photo holder : Not required for renewal
Photo : Not required for renewal
Proof of Classroom training : Received
Proof of Proficiency training : Received
Fee : Received
Background Check : Under review
Concealed Handgun License : Print pending completion of application review
So now it's just a waiting game. Just thought I'd let people know that RENEWALS can submit their documentation on-line instead of mailing. Maybe this saves a few days.

Re: Completed forms: Mail in or submit online?
Hi, new here but I just submitted mine online and the materials were accepted. I could not find a definate answer, so I went ahead and did it. I figured what could it hurt? I have put it off for a few years anyhow.
Since there was no confirmation I decided to share that it does work. In background review now.
So go ahead upload away!!!!

Interesting, you scanned and uploaded your pics too? Not sure how the fingerprints work, I hear they do them electronically these days. Let us know if you run into any issues.rickyrick wrote:Nope, new application.

Re: Completed forms: Mail in or submit online?
Yes scanned the photos and all, I couldn't figure out how to keep them 2x2 that's when I starting finding out that uploading was still in question. I finally shot them off with the thought that if they don't accept them I would just mail them if requested.
I wasted two days trying to decide whether to mail or upload.
The status updated Saturday to documents received. With green check marks.
If it doesn't work for some reason, I guess I took one for the team. Lol

Re: Completed forms: Mail in or submit online?
So with this in conjunction with the fact that you can now write "use driver's License photo" on the CHL 6 is there any need to mail anything in?

Re: Completed forms: Mail in or submit online?
so far it only works with renewals, photos are not required for that
Re: Completed forms: Mail in or submit online?
I'm not sure about that.
The poster above said that he had done it for a new application. Also, there are several threads discussing that as of JUN12 there is no longer a need for photos if you have a Texas DPS DL. You can simply put "use drivers license photo". Oddly enough, the CHL class I took put a sticker that says just that on my CHL-6.
