Moving to Texas. Any advice?

Hi,

I am relocating to Texas from the Northeast. I am a Security Consultant and am looking to move to Texas soon. I am trying to find an area in Texas that is gun friendly and that would not make it impossible to get an FFL. Are all the towns / cities in Texas gun friendly. It is crazy up here in the Northeast. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you very much.

I would say most of Texas is gun friendly - the large cities are more anti though. I'm in north Texas, north of Dallas, near Denton and Frisco. I really like this area and I would suspect that most people here would say the same about where they live too

You might want to take a trip to check out the different parts of Texas - you can drive from dawn to dusk and not leave the state

Stay away from Austin for business purposes in your line of work (although if you love music and people watching, Austin is Awesome!!!).

Other metropolitan areas where the takers outnumber the givers are also likely to give you trouble.

If you're out in the suburbs or rural areas (towns less than 200k), you'll be fine.

Come to Jackson County. Chief LEO is a CHL instructor and very pro gun as is pretty much everyone. 1.5 hrs from 3 major airports and a local one within 20 minutes with exceptional rates to avoid the 1.5 hr drive.

Compared to the Northeast, everywhere in TX is gun friendly.

Here in Parker County, they give you a ticket if you get pulled over and you don't have a concealed weapon!

ha! is it possible to NOT get an FFL anywhere in Texas???

My friend, you're in for a shock when you get to the real world. on the FFL, if you're talking about a home based FFL a local city jurisdiction or HOA will be your only roadblocks. live outside the city limits, avoid the HOAs (or be president of it/get permission from it) and that's really all you need. there's zero in your way from the state perspective.

As others have said, the metro areas will be toughest. highly concentrated northerners. Also as others have said, you'll probably get scolded for NOT having a gun on you outside of those metro areas.

Austin is bad about guns fortunantly Texas has prventive laws that keep the city council in check.
Example the Austin city council passed a resolution backing Finestine's anti gun bills.

If the Austin council could do it and get away with it they would have
all the guns put on a truck hauled off and scrapped.

If your question about "gun friendly" areas has to do with areas like NY where the state is generally pro 2a but NYC is anti, then put your mind at ease. While the big cities either already are (Austin, San Antonio) or are becoming (Houston, Dallas/Ft Worth) pretty liberal, it's nothing like the northeast. State preemption keeps local municipalities from creating their own little fiefdoms. And so far, the influence of the big cities has been mostly held in check in the state legislature.
