I'm not 100% positive, but I don't think Texas is going to care if you owe taxes to another state.

The only tax debts Texas is concerned about is money owed to The State of Texas or it's political subdivisions. (city, county, school district, etc.) :tiphat:

That is not the message I got from the DPS when I originally got a non-resident Texas CHL. There was something in the paperwork about if found to be "finally delinquent" on my Ohio taxes, that would be an issue.

Fortunately, I didn't have any Ohio tax problems. As far as NJ goes, remember the statute uses the phrase "has not been finally determined to be delinquent". There is a big difference between owing back taxes or child support where you have an arrangement with the state to make payments, versus being "finally determined to be delinquent".

Email DPS and ask them.

I was in the process of paying back taxes to the feds when I received my CHL. AFAIK it is only monies owed the state of Texas that will hinder the CHL.

Read GC 411.172 for your answer OP.
(10)has not been finally determined to be delinquent in making a
child support payment administered or collected by the attorney general;
(11)has not been finally determined to be delinquent in the payment
of a tax or other money collected by the comptroller, the tax collector of
a political subdivision of the state, or any agency or subdivision of the state;
Emphasis mine.... Note that the language reads "THE state" and not "ANY state".

Knock knock

Thank you to everyone for your responses. I'm currently paying my back taxes and I'm not delinquent. I just wasn't sure if TX would care about anther state. Thanks again.

Hmmm. That's the exact opposite impression I have had.

My first wife and I stayed with her relatives in NJ in the winter of 1970 for a week or so prior to moving in to NYC. They had had a blizzard and everything was covered with 4-6' of snow. All winter and spring, when we went out on the train to visit, it was like Antarctica. They even had a blizzard for Easter, which put the kibosh on the Easter Parade in Manhatan we've all sung about. I swear I saw penguins walking all over the place, although in recent years someone pointed out that they were in all likelihood nuns rather than penguins.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.
