A friend of mine recently posted this pic at the entrance to the new Scott & White hospital in College Station.

Assuming there is a similar sign at all of the entrances onto the property, is this a legal 30.06 sign? In other words, can it be at the entrance to the property, or does it have to be on DOORS?

I disagree. The sign states "premises". Legally premises does not include parking lots or sidewalks. It would make the buildings off limits.

Yeah, but the 30.06 wording says property. And I don't believe it must be at all the entrances. However, this may not apply if the gun doesn't leave the vehicle.

Similar discussion about 30.06 in a parking garage.

Theory (unproven by court precedent) that you can legally have gun in your vehicle, but not on your person outside your vehicle.

The Scott and White hospital logo caught my attention.

As it is, many seem to think if a 30.06 sign isn't absolutely to spec it can be ignored even when posted in a proper location as in: The letters are only 1/2" high (not 1" as required) so it can be ignored or the Spanish language portion is missing, or a word is out of place, etc...

Am I the only one wondering if very large, not spec 30.06 signs anchored into the ground are legitimate and can be ignored? Afterall, they're not located in the proper place...

I am not sure whether to take your question seriously. There are many new members and new to CHL so some questions surprise me and others do not. There are always the few who seem to think that they can "beat the system" by being clever and trying to find a technicality or loophole in a law.

I am sure that some people do think certain 30.06 signs can be ignored. I think you know that there isn't a "proper place" such as a door to post a legitimate sign.

Yes, it is a valid 30.06 sign and as stated 30.06 is for all the property, not premises (just the building or portion of a building). So, as a CHL holder you cannot carry on property.

The gray area comes in to the leaving it in your vehicle. Since you do not need a license to carry in your vehicle under the MPA, and 30.06 only applies to carrying under authority of your CHL, that as long as you leave it in the vehicle you are not in violation. This theory has not been tested in court to my knowledge, so proceed with caution if you choose to follow that line of reason.

If I see an out of spec 30.06 sign, I still adhere to it...I'm not one to push the limits.

I'm simultaneously annoyed and amused when I read posts where folks on the forum bellicosely exclaim how THEY aren't going to adhere to a 30.06 sign if it isn't absolutely perfect in every way...thus my previous bit of jocularity...

Hand written on notebook paper is not close. Letters slightly smaller than 1" is close.
