Best Zombie CHL Carry Gun

Just spent the last 4 weeks' evenings catching up on seasons 1 - 5 of "Walking Dead" (was out of town on business). I know there's been a number of these threads, but I think I have a different spin so let's see what you all think... ;-)

Quick setup... Zombies (walking dead) require a head shot, complete brain destruction, or severing head from body, to permanently stop (not kill, they're already dead). Until stopped they can infect you and cause you to turn (into a zombie) by biting you with their teeth. They generally shamble or shuffle until they smell/see the living when they then get much more active, since they need to eat living people.....gross.... They can (don't ask why) keep going until one of above methods stops them...even if missing legs, lower torso, etc.

OK so I'm limiting to handguns. If you are prepping for the zombie apocalypse...what CHL qualified handgun to you choose? Remember, world is falling apart with 95%+ of the population (un)dead.

Walking Dead protagonist Sheriff Rick Grimes carries a stainless Colt Python .357mag. I'm a big fan of this wheelgun since it was hot when I was getting into shooting in the '80's. I also am a big 9mm fan for the capacity. Personally may go with a Beretta 92F for my Z gun based on the capacity and oodles of ammo available. I do also like 1911 variants as I owned a Springfield 1911, but .45 ammo harder to scavenge.

TXCHLFORUMER's... What's the best zombie dispatching handgun?

When :biggrinjester: the zombie apocalypse happens, I will be carrying more than just "a gun". I will be held up as long as possible at my zombie-proofed complex with my entire arsenal. If and when I have to go outside my zone, I will carry as much weapons and ammo as possible. :leaving

Since I'm partial to Glocks and it's a Zombie Apocalypse, I would probably switch to carrying my full size .45 or maybe try and get a hold of that long slide .45 Glock, the model 42 I think.

I have not shot a Glock 9mm yet, but that might also be a favorite if accuracy is better because of capacity.

Whichever used, you better be able to hit those head shots. Trying to better my IDPA scores, I've been practicing with 6" paper plates for a while now.

For me it would have to be the Glock 34. Long sight radius and good capacity. Unlike meth laced real people, we just need to shut off the electricity. We don't need to bleed them out. Keep a handful of G17 magazines on your belt. And a couple of the 34 rounders in your cargo pockets.

Okay so as I type this up I am seeing that any Zombie prepper worth their salt will have a USPCA rig with six to eight magazines at the ready. BUT I strongly recommend retention reload. You're going to need those babies at some point.

Yes, the boys and I do sometimes dream of the Zombie Apocalypse.

Ruger 22/45 with spare magazines and a backpack full of ammo. A .22 will destroy the brain just as easily as a 9mm or .45, and you can carry a lot more ammo.

I love .45 ACP pistols, and .357s, and about everything else; but let's get practical for a moment. Is a .45 between the eyes any more or less effective than a .22? No. I've seen a number of people who were shot dead with a single .22 bullet in the brain. They were still breathing when they got to my ER, but not for long. If a zombie is already dead and brain destruction is the key, then there's no "wait time" for them to "die".

Heavier calibers will be necessary - both in handguns and rifles - but those will be necessary for dealing with the living human predators who will arise in any apocalypse. Zombies only require a .22 in the brain. I have it on Good Authority: Day by Day Armageddon.

If it's something I'm going to conceal, a Glock 19.
If it's something that I'm going to carry openly, a Glock 19 with a Glock 17 magazine in it.

(Not choosing Glock 17 for open carry for greater magazine compatibility as it can use both 19 and 17 mags.)

:iagree:
Add a threaded barrel and suppressor, so the sound doesn't attract more of them.

Your signal to noise ratio is intimidating to the rest of us. Do you ever screw up and just get something wrong? :-)

I guess it depends on the specific question:
1. What do you want to have with you in the event you get caught in the beginning of the Zombie Apocalypse?

2. What do you want to have in the long run after it starts?

How about a sturdy spear and full shield and 5000 other sturdy friends with spears and shields? Backing up another 5000 with suppressed rifles?

If the zombie skulls in TWD are accurate, you just need a wet tissue to smack them with for total brain destruction, usually with high velocity gore streaming for free!

The zombie movies are a bit silly, If Zombie has only legs and teeth as weapon. Then a Simple APC with few machine guns and few snipers from elevated post behind 10ft walls would wipe them off. If they keep coming shoot more. If no more ammo, you can use your bow/cross bow and and you can retrieve your arrows between wave and wave of zombies. Oh, you can use APC as bulldozer and run them all over.
