What I have read states that HB910 gives CHl holders the option of carrying their handgun either wholly or partially visible in a belt or shoulder holster. Sometimes I rear pocket carry and my jeans cover or conceal of camouflage the top of my firearm. If I choose to carry a slightly larger firearm, say Glocks new 43, and it protrudes slightly from my rear pocket, would this be lawful under HB910 if it passes? I just ask because the language I have seen just states in a belt or shoulder holster. Thank you for your replies.

My guess, because of the way HB910 is written: probably not.

But since I'm neither a lawyer or the po-po, your guess is as good as mine!

I agree that the text of the bill does not include intentional open carry other than in a belt or shoulder holster. For pocket carry, long-tailed shirts and pants that don't sag will do a lot to keep things concealed though.

Technically, I don't think it would qualify. However, in practicality, I don't think it would be an issue. (not advising you to risk it though)

I carry my Colt Mustang in my back pocket inside my Tagua leather holster, http://www.taguagunleather.com/index.ph ... uct_id=728" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , with the belt clip removed. It is designed to to be a belt holster but it works fine as a pocket holster. The very top of my pocket doesn't close and cover it completely. However, it isn't discernible to the average Joe out there. I've been in line in front of cops at a local restaurant and nothing was said.

My claim would be the holster since designed to go on a belt would suffice since the gun isn't any easier to remove than it would be in a belt holster on the belt.

Thank you for the responses. I imagine that y'all are correct that pocket carry not completely concealed would be illegal. I also think many LEOs might not know that. But, I do not want to find out and or become a test case. Thanks again for the replies.

I carry a BUG in my pocket and occasionally that is the only gun I carry. I turn the gun upside down so the grip is in the bottom of my pocket. The muzzle end of the holster is closed and thin, so looks like a wallet. It's a little slower to draw since it takes a maneuver using both hands but gives me total concealment. I prefer to have the muzzle pointed down at my feet instead of up at my head.

I also prefer to not sweep my hand as I grab a gun.

They make holsters for rear pocket carry. I'm sure there will be new holsters coming out that will slide into rear pocket with a extension that will allow you to attach it to your belt. I bet the holster makers have the plans on the drawing board and are just waiting for passage.

I've always had an issue with the idea of a back pocket holster. People get their wallet stolen all the time, I wouldn't want anyone trying to snatch my gun. That, and while it'd behind you, you are less aware of it. I don't like the draw stroke on that Recluse holster. Of course, you would want to train with it, but it seems like you would be able to get to the trigger while you're forming your grip on the gun. I prefer holsters that don't allow trigger access until you have a full firing grip and have cleared the holster.

How do you do that without covering any part of your body?

It's hard to explain, but I'll try. I grab the holster from the muzzle end, but where there is no muzzle. I'm right handed so that would be the upper right corner of the holster. I pull the holster from my pocket and rotate the muzzle away from my body to bring the grip to the top. While rotating, I bring the holster to the front of my body and put it in my left hand. Then I can draw from the holster with my right hand.

With my body shape, should it accidentally discharge while carrying it (unlikely since the gun is on safe, the trigger is covered and nothing else goes in the pocket) the bullet would go up and away from my body. If I carried the muzzle down, I'd likely shoot myself in the leg.

In practice, I have found that I'm less likely to hit the trigger with the muzzle pointed up. Also, the holster doesn't get hung on my pocket when trying to pull it out.

The only way I carry is in a rear pocket holster, it's convenient and it isn't noticeable what is in my pocket, looks like any other wallet. On my holster the holster is sewn to the flat back, you can grasp the grip and pull the gun leaving the holster in your pocket easily.
