Has anyone heard if the Nevada CHL will be recipritory with Texas the 1st of October.

It's the first of heard of the possibility, but if so, it would make lots of folks I know happier.

6-15-07 the Gov. of Nevada signed SB 237 which will allow Nevada to negotiate Right-to-Carry reciprocity agreements with states whose training standards match Nevada’s. SB237 will be effective Monday, October 1. This doesn't create the agreements it only allows for the negotiations of.

Looking at the current laws on carrying there, the only places that look off-limits are schools, airports, federal buildings, and any place with metal detectors or "no guns" signs. Interestingly, the law states specifically that the metal detectors or signs have to be at all public entrances for this to be valid.

Hopefully gov. Perry will, but his signing has very little to do with whether Nevada decides to recognize Texas. that is still up to the authoritys in Nevada.

Actually, he will be the last, not the first, in the process. For the first 8 years of the CHL program in Tejas, DPS was the one responsible for initiating and negotiating reciciprocity agreements with other states - and we only averaged about one per year in that time frame. The Legislature subsequently gave the authority to the Texas Attorney General's office roughy 4 years ago and they have been kicking butt - at least with states where our (revised) law allows them to reciprocate.

Texas already recognizes Nevada liceneses. Perry signed it in March of '05

Correct. So it's basically up to Greg Abbott to work out the Nevada end of the deal (so they recognize us).

He seems to be pretty good at it, so I am optimistic.

The "gun-buster" signs make it illegal to carry in Nevada, but the crime is trespassing. I recently moved here from Vegas and my nevada instructor was a cop who said, "trespassing in nevada is handled with a $25 dollar ticket. If you are in a place that has no gun signs and you are forced to defend yourself then you will get a $25 dollar trespassing fine."

Private property owners dont really have a way to keep CHL holders out in nevada. You can carry in any casino you choose, just avoid gov't buildings and schools.

Wow. Good to know. I'm not terribly familiar with Nevada's penal code, but that sounds like the equivalent to a Class C misdemeanor or civil offense.

Now we just need reciprocity, and I'd feel nice and comfortable going to Vegas.

I don't believe its legal to carry in any of the casinos in the Gulf Coast. Most in Louisiana get upset if you carry a camera in a case! Pick pockets are common in Vegas, so I'm not sure if I'll ever pack in Vegas, although inside the casinos is very safe and allowing us to carry inside just shows how serious Nevada takes tourist safety.

Vegas is actually cheaper than the trip I used to take to San Antonio even though we have to fly to get there. I don't have to worry about lockback knives ordinances or their chamber of commerce being anti-gun and disarming working folks.
