Banks, etc.

My bank was reciently aquired by another firm, shortly afterward a I noticed a 30.06 notice. I asked a bank employee about this and was told - - - "Oh that, it's Federal Law." I have noticed other banks in the area don't have notices. What is the actual law regarding carry in Banks?

The 30.06 notice has very little effect on my activities with this bank since I have my paycheck on direct deposit and I use the drive through for most other business. I am concerened with security if the bad guys realize I'm not armed leaving the building.

Another thought, there were several armed bank robberies in my area in the last year. All of these were at small branches that had no armed security. I can't help but think the robbers might have thought twice if they weren't sure no one was armed inside the bank.

Their federal law comment is out of ignorance.

Banks are like other private property in Tejas. I'd not waste any breath on the poor tellers. Probably a short, polite visit with the bank manager though, suggesting removal of 30.06 sign or intent to take money elsewhere. And if they don't yank their sign, yank the money - and follow-up with letter to manager's supervisor as to why.

I don't have need to go into 'em often, but I've yet to see a bank in our area with a 30.06 sign. About the only "proper" signs I've seen locally are at gun shows - where I have no problem with their posture.

Was up at DPS office on Loop 288 in Denton earlier this week. There was only tape on the glass around the perimeter of where the 30.06 sign USED TO BE. :D

Was it actually a legal PC 30.06 notice or just a generic "no guns" sign?

I don't know if I have ever seen a legitimate PC 30.06 but I see a lot of valueless "no guns allowed" signs around here.

I was in the bank today, well armed, but I didn't see the almost invisible "crossed out pistol" decal on the door. I follow the law when the law is posted but I pay no attention to trivia or notices of no consequence.

No, these were real honest to goodness 30.06 signs in both English and Spanish and may have only been at the particular branch I was visiting at the time.

I am going to look farther into this.

The Manager of the Fedelity State Bank of Texas at Lake Shore drive and north 19th street in Waco 30:06ed his bank just as soon as the law passed. One of the customers had a business up the street and regularly made evening deposits there. He complained and the bank manger told him that the signs were required by the state banking commission.

The customer knew this wasn't true and so did the bank manager. When he threatened to move his account, the manager told him that he could carry his gun in just as long as he didn't try to stop any bank robberies with it.

The bank is at a fairly isolated intersection and, at that time, the front door was surrounded by hedges. I believe they removed those. The rest of it is not a great problem because that silly little bank doesn't have many customers.

At the time of passage, Nations Bank or Bank of America -whatever the name was at the time, said that the bank has a general policy against firearms but realizes that some of the customers are armed. They declined to post 30;06 or any other notice. This was a real non-statement but the banks remain un-posted. Most banks are not posted anti-chl.

My wife says that Bank of America, at least her branch, doesn't have a 30.06 sign. They do have a sign that says no guns, but it isn't a real sign.

I know the JSC Federal Credit Union in League City posts the 30.06.

It isn't my primary bank and I don't got inside very often. Last time I did, at least they had a police officer there.

It does really make me nervous to be in a bank that posts 30.06. I just think... these people are morons.

My CU of 30+ years has non-compliant 30-06 posted at main office (no spanish verbage) but the small town branch only has the pistol picture with red markout that is so worthless. Another branch that is close to work has full compliant 30-06 posting. The mindset behind this bothers me, but I can't think of a financial reason to drop them after all these years. This will not be an easy decision. About 10 years ago while in the branch close to my work I noticed the "armed" security guard inside at a desk. I was waiting in the office area behind the guard and had the time to stare. The pistol in the guards holster was a toy. It was not noticeable at a casual glance but I had time to stare without being obvious. Everything about that problem scares me!!!!!

And the first thing a robber will do is shoot him. How dumb can people get.

OEF asked:
How dumb can people get.
The Marines standing guard at the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, could not stop the suicide bomber who blew up the barracks because they were standing guard with no cartridges in their weapons, in a city with thousands of terrorists. So, the answer to that question is, pretty damn dumb.

After 9/11 I saw the news media filming the guards at Bush airport standing around. I took a close look at their M 16's. No mags in their
weapons.

The bank I work part time at does not have one. It has never been an issue as far as I know.

I spoke with a manager at my local 30.06 posted CU. She claimed it was required to get the FDIC insurance. Others here have said the "requirement" to post is bogus. I wonder if the banks/CUs aren't mis-interpreting some real language. If we can identify that language and make a broad campaign to educate our local banks, we and our money might all be safer.... I'll stay tuned here to see if any of you dig up any real facts in the matter.
