AUSTIN - Texas will become the largest state in the nation...to allow the open carry of handguns....
Open Carry is legal in Alaska.
Geography is obviously not Lauren McGaughy's strong suite.

I believe Texas is the most populous state to have open carry.

From the article:
"I don't think people that choose to openly carry a handgun are going to go out and start committing crimes," Houston Police Chief Mike McClelland said recently. "But I do believe they could become a victim of a crime. Or they could be in a situation to where they witness a crime and because they are openly carrying, they may try to intervene."

McClelland said licensed gun owners who leave their firearms in their cars also could become the target of "jugging," a crime on the rise in Houston in which thieves steal guns from unattended vehicles.

The risk for accident also could increase, he said.

"Any time you introduce more guns into any environment, empirical data has shown, you have more accidental shootings," he said. "You have more suicides, more children shoot themselves."
Is this guy as dumb as he sounds? After 20 years of concealed carry, why would open carry be any different?

Wrong! if you melted down all the snow and ice, there's dirt and hard rock underneath. I know this for a fact, as I lived there for many years. I especially enjoyed the summer - both days of it! :biggrinjester:

This was a quote from a Texan that a good friend of mine from New Jersey met at Ft. Benning, GA in jump school in 1987. Some of the soldiers were talking about where they were from, and one of the privates said he was from Texas and it was the biggest and best state. Being a smart aleck my friend asked him "What about Alaska???" and the Texan replied the above. :biggrinjester:
