I always wear concealed whenever I leave my house, even when walking across the street to check my mail. By concealed I mean partial because I'm using Alien Gear iwb and the grip shows. Yesterday while working in my driveway I see two guys (one about 35 the other maybe 20) going door to door. In our neighborhood there is a "no solicitation" sign coming into our area. These guys come up my driveway and the older one says don't worry we are not trying to change your religion. Then he asked me and my wife what are names are, my wife says we don't give our names to strangers. The younger one is carrying some kind of papers and starts his spiel while taking out some papers. I told them there is no solicitation in our neighborhood, the older one said they had permission (which I highly doubt). I told them we didn't have time, they realized that was the end of their time with us. As they are walking away the younger one says "we better leave before he shoots me". When I first saw them coming I had turned my body so they couldn't have seen my weapon. As soon as I got in the house I sent an email to my homeowners association, wanting to know if they ever give permission to soliciatate, being its the weekend I don't expect a response until Monday.

If the officers of your HOA give anyone permission to solicitatate, you need new officers.

Is this "Limited Access" or gated community as well?

Solicitors and Peddlers

The City of Katy’s Ordinance No. 2243, regulates home solicitations, charitable solicitations, and itinerant merchants.
Peddlers and solicitors must obtain a permit from, and register with the Katy Police Department.
A registered Solicitor will be wearing an identification card that is issued by the Katy Police Department and is clearly visible to the public.
A registered Solicitor is allowed to be in the city during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

If for any reason you believe that an individual may appear suspicious, please contact the Katy Police Department at 281.391.4848.

Wow they don't mess around. Is there a religious exemption of any sort?

In Friendswood all solicitors have to register with the city and wear a badge the city gives them. If they come to my door without the badge I tell them the requirements and if they keep going door to door I call the Police and they track them down. We get too many "magazine subscription" scammers and people from out of state going door to door running scams and I keep up with the Friendswood blotter and see how some of these door to door people end up getting arrested due to warrants. It may seem minor to get the Police but I would rather the Police keep the crooks from scamming people with their high pressure sales tactics.

Only Solicitors I ever will talk to are the Girl Scouts because those peanut butter patties are just to dang good! They probably have me for about $75 over the last 2 weeks alone. I have found that three peanut butter pattie cookies chased by one shortbread is the perfect snack. And with my lack of self control I end up having about 20 snacks a day.

You have the right to keep solicitors it anyone else from stepping on your property. Who cares what the HOA allows. UNLESS the covenants allows solicitors on a property and you agreed to the covenants when you bought.

If not simply place a no solicitation sign on your porch or at the street.

It's not gated but there is a sign before you enter the neighborhood. When he said he had permission I didn't believe him.

:iagree: I suggest using the same approach as mrvmax. Make sure you follow up with the phone call to the local police.

When I was younger, my Brother had a sign on his front door that said,"We shoot every third salesman and the second one just left."

I don't bother to conceal when I'm working in my garage with the door open or working around the yard. I've found that one of the added benefits is that it makes conversations with solicitors much shorter.
