Just had a general question. I travel all over Texas for work, and typically stay in hotels when im away. I sometimes bring with me multiple firearms (several pistols, AR15's, knives and ammo ect..) to make review videos on or to visit local ranges while im off work. I havnt had any issues yet, but the last trip my hotel had both 30.06 & 07 signs posted that i wasnt aware of at booking. Being those i thought are mainly to address carrying on ones person, and all mine were in bags or cases, i paid little attn to it. I normally bring my guns with me in my vehicle when i leave, as to not leave them in the room, or leave them locked in a case with a sign on the door saying no room cleaning. Also on my way back from the panhandle a few weeks ago, i passed thru a drug checkpoint (first time ever) but was waived thru due to someone was being arrested at the time and they had minimal staffing.

Has anyone ever had encounters with LEO's while carrying a lot of weapons or any issues with hotels? I dont want to have the police called on me and then find out im in some way breaking the law.

Texas hotels have to follow the following....

Texas law further requires that any policy prohibiting a guest’s right to bring firearms onto a hotel premises be disclosed in the terms and conditions of guest reservations on the hotel’s website at the time a reservation is initially booked. Under the Texas Occupations Code § 2155.103 (2015), if a guest makes a reservation by telephone, the hotel’s subsequent written reservation confirmation must include information about how guests may access and review the hotel’s applicable gun policy.

I'm not criticizing or anything, just letting you know. Carrying a handgun, loaded or not, on person or in a bag, past a 30.06 is a class C misdemeanor. That is of course assuming you have a LTC. The carry of rifles, absent any other signage, is not addressed and totally legal. I have never been stopped by LEO with lots of guns on me, but I wouldn't expect them to give you any trouble if you have a reason, weren't doing anything else really illegal, and you're polite and cooperative.

My understanding is that once you have paid for your room it is now treated as your household. You can legally carry guns to and from your room regardless of any signage posted. You cannot hang out in the lobby, pool etc but you can carry from your vehicle to your room and vice versa without violating any laws.

This is my understanding of a hotel room also. I could be wrong of course.

Let's not forget the TPC 46.15 traveling exemption

Sec. 46.15. NONAPPLICABILITY.
(b) Section 46.02 does not apply to a person who:
(2) is traveling;

Remember that 46.02 is what prohibits carrying of handguns by non-license-holders.

Sec. 46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS.
(a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is not:
(1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or
(2) inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the person's control.

I'm no lawyer, but I would think that 46.15 should apply to license holders as well. Why would non-license-holders enjoy a protection and us not enjoy that same protection? I don't know of any court cases that have addressed this, and someone with a little better know-how might come and correct me, though.

I've been stopped on hunting trips a few times with several rifles and a couple of handguns. Once the officer knew I'd been hunting there was never a problem. If they ask, just tell them why you have so many.

That ought to solve the problem. Calm discussion among people of good will can work wonders. But it does require people to be of good will.

Checked into the Intercontinental in Austin with 14 double guns. All were cased(makers, trunk, leg o' mutton)Bellman loaded them up on the trolley with the other luggage and we checked in, no problem.
